A Shameless Plea, Mud Runs, and “I Wanna Be That Bird”

by tinareale on March 2, 2012

1. Oh, how I did not want to get up this morning. I so badly wanted to stay snuggled up in bed, yet I knew that doing so would only make my day more hectic starting out. That always seems to set the whole tone for my days, so I drug myself out of bed. Now, after some quiet time and Bible reading, I feel much more refreshed. Well….mentally, at the very least.

2. Best Body Fitness received a nomination for “BEST PERSONAL TRAINER BLOG” at Fitness Magazine!!!

image

Pretty please with a  cherry on top will you click over and vote for me??? I said with a cherry on top!

3. Peter and I are due for a date night. We used to take one every single weekend. Then, with kids and budgets we decided to spend more date nights in, but vowed to have one night out just the two of us once a month. At the very least. Our last date night? January 14th.

Who wants to come babysit???

4. I actually found someone at Braedon’s doctor office that doesn’t think I starve my child!! Braedon had his one year check up yesterday. I braced myself for the “let’s run through everything he’s eating because surely you can’t be feeding him enough” deal. It didn’t happen! The nurse practitioner we saw said that even though he’s a smaller kiddo, he seems perfectly healthy. I will be seeing her from now on. I know my kid eats. A lot.

And that picture is just because it’s too adorable to not re-post.

5. I have become insanely intrigued by the Dirty Girl Mud Run race series that I found out is coming to Atlanta.

I have always wanted to do a mud run! They look so badass.

6. I think the hardest part of being a work from home mom is balance. Some days I feel like I have it and other days I feel like a wreck. I guess, just like anything in life, it’s all about taking things day by day and keeping perspective on what matters.

7. I want to be this bird.

Thank you Julie from ROJ Running for that entertainment!

8. Except I want candy corn pouring into my mouth. Ever since Shanna tweeted me about Brachs having Easter candy corn out, I haven’t been able to get it off my mind.

 source

If I could stomach chewing while running those would so take place of Gu for my “quick energy source” during my 16 miler tomorrow. Too bad I can’t. But I no doubt will search these babies out sometime this season!

9. I have been insanely forgetful about taking pictures lately. I need to remedy that before we head to a fun activity with Makenzie and the kids tonight. We’re going with some friends to a special “Drive-In” movie. The kids get to watch a move in cars made from large cardboard boxes. How cute!

10. Lesson of the week – God only gives us what He knows we can handle…so why do we try to pile more on top of that? Duly noted, God. Duly noted.

11. You have 3 days left to register for Best Body Bootcamp! We have almost 140 registered. We have a private Facebook group. We will have the first two weeks of workouts in our hands today. We have energy. We’re ready for Monday!!!!

Would you ever be into a mud run? Are you normally good about remembering pictures? Did you vote for me? Okay, that last one isn’t a real question. Happy Friday!!!

Voted! Good luck!

The mud run looks fun. Have you seen The Color Run races? I want to do one of those!

2 tinareale March 2, 2012 at 4:30 pm

There’s one here that I saw and wanted to do but it was a weekend that I couldn’t. Def looks like fun!

3 Tiff March 2, 2012 at 6:03 am

Congrats on the nomination! :D Yay.

I agree, that pic of Braedon is too cute for words.

4 Miz March 2, 2012 at 6:05 am

ahhh number six.
I GET YE TOO :)

5 Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot March 2, 2012 at 6:08 am

Whoot, whoot! Sounds like you are excited for the weekend! And I have a 16 miler tomorrow too! Hopefully you do not have to worry about a snow storm between then
and now… And darn it, I really want to sign up for that Boot Camp! My sister signed up and I am going to be jealous the entire time…but I am worried it will push me too hard during marathon training. Do you think it would be OK/doable to do both? I’m sure someone has already asked you this so I apologize for the repeat question…

6 tinareale March 2, 2012 at 4:31 pm

It depends. If you regularly strength train already then probably not as long as you didn’t go as heavy on leg work and you would maybe have a couple weeks where you cut out some of the strength sessions. If you’re not comfortable with it, then I wouldn’t push it though. :)

7 Kristen @ The Concrete Runner March 2, 2012 at 6:23 am

Congrats Tina on the nomination! My baby is only in the 8th percentile for weight and the doctor has never said anything regarding how small she is. Maybe it’s because she’s only 4 months – I hope they don’t start saying things when she’s older because I’m pretty sure she will always be tiny!

8 Tara Burner March 2, 2012 at 6:33 am

congrats! and totally up for mud run

9 Marcia March 2, 2012 at 7:06 am

I have done 2 mud runs so far…so much fun! We did not take it too seriously and dressed up and had a blast! They take a lot out of ya! The obstacles, water and mud etc. Well worth how dirty you get. :)

10 tinareale March 2, 2012 at 4:32 pm

Oh that race would be totally for fun and not to race by any means. I’m too clumsy anyways! LOL

11 Lauren March 2, 2012 at 7:07 am

I am so happy you posted that picture because it just made my morning. :) And there are definitely days when I feel like i have everything together and days when I feel like things are all over the place. Part of life I suppose.
Have a wonderful Friday love!

12 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey March 2, 2012 at 7:27 am

Congratulations!!!! How exciting – I will definitely vote for you (obviously).

I love that picture of the bird. Oh my gosh, it’s hilarious.

13 Cheryl @ Happy is the new healthy March 2, 2012 at 7:36 am

I’m voting for you immediately. That is awesome–congrats! :)

I am okay about remembering pictures but lately they’ve been of the iPhone persuasion–so they could be better!

I love the idea of a mud run or a warrior dash or a tough mudder or any of those “hard core” events. But I think I’d do it for fun, maybe with friends? :)

Happy Friday!

14 tinareale March 2, 2012 at 4:33 pm

Oh, definitely! That is so the type of race to do just for fun. :)

15 Amanda @ Click. The Good News March 2, 2012 at 7:50 am

Congrats on the nomination- just voted for ya!

That bird photo is awesome- such a great way to start a Friday- have a fab weekend :)

16 corey @ learning patience March 2, 2012 at 7:51 am

Voted and that bird picture is hilarious…for real! Thanks for the Friday Funny girlie! :-)
I did the warrior dash and am very close to signing up for the tough mudder as I type….still deciding..its 12 miles and obstacles…. still not sure!

xoxo from Trinidad

17 Heather (Heather's Dish) March 2, 2012 at 7:52 am

um duh, of course i voted for you! and that bird picture…OMG I WANT TO BE HIM TOO! sorry to shout…got a little excited!

18 Maryea @ Happy Healthy Mama March 2, 2012 at 8:05 am

Going to vote for you–congrats! I’ve always wanted to do a mud run, too. They look so fun. I never would have guessed that Braedon is “small”–he definitely has the adorable baby chubby cheeks! :-) Meghan was always at the low end of the percentiles (25th), but our pediatrician said “someone has to be on the lower end of the curve”. It’s so true. There would be no curve if it weren’t for smaller babies! Now Luke on the other hand, he’s taken up space on the opposite side of the curve. Not sure how I ended up with complete opposite babies.

19 Lee March 2, 2012 at 8:13 am

I voted for you. They should fix the typo in your bio though!

That Mud Run sounds awesome. I’d do it…

20 tinareale March 2, 2012 at 4:34 pm

haha. it was driving me crazy too, si?

21 Heather (Where's the Beach) March 2, 2012 at 8:17 am

Congrats on the nomination. That’s so awesome my friend. My sister deals with the same thing with her kids. They are just munchkins in height and weight. Some kids are just small period.

22 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table March 2, 2012 at 8:24 am

Do the mud run! Adventure races are the most fun I’ve ever had running.

Congrats on the nomination! Going to vote for you now. :)

23 Nicole March 2, 2012 at 8:53 am

The mud run intrigues me too, but I don’t know if I’d actually do it. Going to vote for you now! happy weekend!

24 Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona March 2, 2012 at 9:00 am

Congrats on the nomination – that’s pretty exciting!

25 Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health March 2, 2012 at 9:07 am

Voted for you yesterday! I think a mud run would be so much fun! I wish there was one nearby me! Hope you have a fabulous weekend :)

26 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries March 2, 2012 at 9:53 am

congratulations on the nomination, tina!! :) that’s so exciting. as for that photo of braedon – SO stinkin adorable!

27 Emilia March 2, 2012 at 9:58 am

Congrats on the nomination, just voted for you! The mud run looks insanely cool, though I gotta admit, a bit intimidating as well. It would definitely be an amazing experience.
That picture of Braedon is adorable, so sweet!

28 Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile March 2, 2012 at 10:03 am

Ahhh you were nominated!!! I need to click over there and start voting! Good luck, I love your blog you should have no problem winning :D

29 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen March 2, 2012 at 10:08 am

Congrats on the nomination Tina. Well deserved :)

30 Amy Lauren March 2, 2012 at 10:30 am

I’m not really into mud running or obstacle runs, but a lot of my friends really like them. I guess it’s just the team thing… I’m scared I’d be a weak link for my team or something. We have quite a few around here in SC that are here every year now.

Congrats on your nomination for your blog, you totally deserve it!

I think the doc should stop giving you crap about your son. Seems like he eats very healthy, maybe he is just small. The sad thing is that a lot of the kids who are bigger are because their parents may be feeding them too much junk food or they may not be very active. To me, it’s the same as women comparing bodies- everyone is different with different genetics, every kid is different too. Just my two cents :) .

31 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats March 2, 2012 at 10:34 am

omg that bird! So hilarious! however I hope they cleaned him off! And that candy corn is killing me! I can’t have white sugar and candy corn is a favorite of mine, and it looks extra delicious in those colors… dying right now. Haha maybe this is one of the things God things I can handle – resisting candy. If that’s the worst of it, I’ll take it!

32 Heather @ Better With Veggies March 2, 2012 at 10:51 am

Very cool that you were nominated – I’m voting for you now! And I’m excited about bootcamp, it will be a great return to strength after my mary this weekend!!

33 Katie @ Healthy Heddleston March 2, 2012 at 10:53 am

Hahah that bird is awesome!

34 jobo March 2, 2012 at 11:14 am

of course I will vote!! YAY you!! and for me, starburst jelly beans are calling my name…but they are a huge trigger for me, must resist! there should be 100 calorie packs of those…or maybe I should make my own version. hmm ;-) happy weekend!

35 Paige @ Running Around Normal March 2, 2012 at 11:22 am

Yay! Congrats, Tina :) I voted for both you and Courtney. Way to go!
And I’m making it my mission to find that candy corn.

36 Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning March 2, 2012 at 11:31 am

Love this post! Congrats on the nominee!
I want to do a mud run (there are so many different ones around here) so bad, but just never actually sign up for one. Shame on me.
And the photo of the bird made me laugh out loud! Love it!

37 Claire @ Live and Love to Eat March 2, 2012 at 11:49 am

What time should I be over to babysit?

38 tinareale March 2, 2012 at 4:35 pm

7 sound good? ;)

39 Carol @ Lucky Zucca March 2, 2012 at 11:51 am

Voted for you!!! I hope you win! You deserve it. That bird is too funny. And I think the mud run looks fun too!

40 Meredith @ DareYouTo March 2, 2012 at 11:51 am

Congrats on your nomination! The photos of Braendon and the chocolate-covered bird made me smile :)

41 Kerry March 2, 2012 at 11:55 am

haha that bird is crazy!!

42 Maggie March 2, 2012 at 11:55 am

I love that bird picture!! That’s hilarious. I definitely need to be more mindful of not trying to pile more and more and more on top of my to do list- thanks for the reminder! I can’t wait for bootcamp to start up – I can tell by reading the emails this morning you have put SO much time and effort and love into it!

43 Sara March 2, 2012 at 12:31 pm

Jut registered and paid for bootcamp!

44 Bianca @A Healthy Gourmet Lifestyle March 2, 2012 at 12:39 pm

Just voted! And if I weren’t all the way in Texas I would gladly babysit! You’re kids are so adorable and they look so well behaved.

45 Megan @ Fiterature March 2, 2012 at 12:43 pm

Totally voted for you!

I have always wanted to do a Mud Run as well – I’m also thinking about doing one of these: http://runforyourlives.com/ Running while zombies chase me? YES PLEASE!!

46 Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength March 2, 2012 at 1:29 pm

<3 Lesson of the week – God only gives us what He knows we can handle…so why do we try to pile more on top of that? Duly noted, God. Duly noted. <3 Thank you for that, Tina.

47 Krystina (Krystina Zena) March 2, 2012 at 1:30 pm

If that bird picture is real, then I don’t really think that is funny, it’s actually pretty sad. Warm chocolate was poured all over its face and body and probably either hurt it or killed it. Yeah, not a cute “hehe birdie covered in chocolate, so jealous!” picture at all to me.

48 Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves March 2, 2012 at 1:36 pm

Mud runs are so fun! Usually much less competitive than road races and something different to throw in your race schedule. Although, I don’t know if I would do one alone. I don’t think playing in the mud by yourself would be so great. You should definitely get a group of girls together and check it out.

49 Dena @ 40 Fit in the Mitt March 2, 2012 at 1:56 pm

Congrats on being Nominated!

50 natalie @ southern fit foodie March 2, 2012 at 2:18 pm

I would LOVE to do a mud run! I think I’m doing the warrior dash in September, and I can’t wait!

I’m going to vote for you right now!

51 Ashley March 2, 2012 at 2:19 pm

I want to be that bird too! I’m actually doing the Dirty Girl in Indiana this year! It looks like alot of fun and for a good cause!
And very cute baby :) He looks perfectly healthy to me!!!
Pictures – oh my oh my – people think I’m obsessed, and I may be a little, but it’s the best way I remember things! :) I do slack sometimes though.

52 KatieJ March 2, 2012 at 2:21 pm

Voted for you – LOVE that pic of B and I can’ t help it but there is a typo on their website – Tina is not Tina si

53 Shannon ~ My Place In The Race March 2, 2012 at 2:58 pm

You can count on my vote lady bug!! Have a great weekend! Hope all these storms we’re getting are not making it your way.

54 Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) March 2, 2012 at 3:31 pm

I completely feel you on the balance thing. Most days (which I guess I should be thrilled that it’s MOST) I feel like I’ve got it all together, then other days I’m scrambling so much I wonder how I’ll make it until dinner!
Also, date night, so important. We’re due, too. If only I had the guts to call a sitter :)

55 Carissa @Fit2Flex March 2, 2012 at 4:07 pm

1. How CUTE is that bird??? Hilarious. did you see he video of the cat massaging the pug?

2. That mud race looks very fun! ATL road trip?

3. I voted!!

Happy Friday!

56 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions March 2, 2012 at 4:37 pm

Bahahahahahaha that bird. I saw that picture…somewhere…some social networking site…the other day and I died. I’m totally with you on wanting to be that bird! (Particularly on Easter Sunday, when I start eating sweets again. Man, I will be that bird on Easter, let’s be serious ;) ).

57 Kelsey @ The Secret Life of Kelsey March 2, 2012 at 5:37 pm
