Well, as this (hopefully) publishes, I’m driving my booty to the airport to catch a plane for a trip I feel I have anticipated for forever. I’m headed to Chicago this weekend, baby!!! I’ll spend the next few days with Chelsey talking each others’ ears off, eating good food, sight-seeing, and enjoying life. We can’t forget that I’ll also get the chance to see a few other great blog friends in the process and cheer a few of them on in the Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning. Yep. I have a great weekend ahead. But before that, Scenes from the Week time!
Are they not two of the cutest things ever? Makenzie and her best bud had some fun bowling action last weekend. We made a family night of it on Sunday and it was just what I needed after having to deal with flooding in our basement again on Saturday.
I love my Blend Retreat t-shirt so much. I always wear it. Like I did one day earlier this week….then got a little heads up that the official announcement for 2013 dates may be coming soon. #isoplantobethere #bestblogthingever #youshouldgotoo
Decaf cup of coffee on a rainy afternoon? Don’t mind if I do! If only I could have had it alongside a book instead of alongside my laptop and work. Good thing I love my work. It was still relaxing.
This is what morning snack time looks like around here almost daily. We’re a family of green smoothie lovers!!
And I’m now an excited green smoothie with VEGA lover. Or…plan to be.
I had a coupon for drugstore.com and then they had Vega for BOGO 50%. I’ve been wanting to move to more natural protein blends for my smoothies and I always hear rave reviews about Vega’s plant based protein with extra good stuff like the omega 3, fiber, and other vitamins and minerals. So I ordered some bags.
What did I think? I think smoothie bags with silica gel beads packets in them need to come with a warning!
I plopped a scoop of the Tropical Tango flavor in my smoothie yesterday morning. I thought the taste was spot on but that the texture was extremely gritty. You know what’s going to happen don’t you? Well, I had heard that plant based protein powders can have a slightly more gritty texture and it didn’t kill me because the taste was so good. So, I drank it all. Then cleaned my blender and found a shredded wrapping of silica gel beads at the bottom of the blender (that one above was from my chocolate package). Lovely. I’ll let you know a final review of what I think sans beads. Although, they must be good if I still want to drink it despite drinking blended up grit. Wouldn’t you say?
Moving on from my blonde moment du jour.
A little update on my training for the Runner’s World Half which is now just TWO WEEKS away!!!
Things are going pretty good overall. I have been moving back to more neutral shoes again – Saucony Rides as I have worn before my issues, as I mentioned in my last shoe talk post. Things have been going swimmingly. Occasionally at the very, very end of long runs I would feel a dull ache on the top of my foot where I get my issues, but usually if I foam roll well it stays under control and goes away for all other runs.
Then, I did something stupid. I had a 14 mile run planned and figured I would give it a shot back in the slightly more stable shoes “just to be safe”. Well, my body apparently adjusted to the neutral shoes stat and got VERY angry with me for that decision. My ITB and posterior tibialis flared up and I was hobbling after 3.5 miles. I cut the run short, iced, foam rolled, and took some extra rest. I did manage to get in that 14 mile run back in the Sauconys a couple days later without more than a dull ache, but I can still tell things are tender. And it was going SO WELL, too! Bummer. But I scaled back mileage a lot this week to just two runs (one 3 miler and the 8 miles on the treadmill above) and I’ll be taking off the entire time in Chicago. I’ll finish my training and then be able to do the race hopefully strong!
Well, gotta jet! Aren’t I oh so clever with my puns? I’ll see you soon and I hope you have a great Friday and weekend, too! Ohhh….Chelsey…I’m on my way!!!!!!
Your Turn – What was the best part of your week? What was your last “did I really do that” moment?
