Scenes from the Week

by tinareale on October 26, 2012

Happy Friday morning, you guys! Thanks for sticking with me through all the #RWHalf recaps this week. I hope you enjoyed them as I much as I experienced reliving it all. I also know I alluded to an announcement of some kind earlier this week. I hate to do this, but that will have to hold off just a wee bit longer. I have to wait for some stuff to clear before I get the official okay to share. Sorry, guys! I would tell you now if I could. Trust me.

Now that we’re all caught up on Runner’s World stuff, how about we get reconnected with some of the things happening in life over this past week? It may not be as exciting as meeting running icons and running races, but still worth sharing for sure. Time for Scenes from the Week!

I always use off site parking when traveling, but often times it can be a bit of a hassle waiting for shuttles. And, quite frankly, sometimes the staff can be rude. This past week when I traveled, I used a different place: The Parking Spot – a covered parking deck with many amenities to make airport parking easier.

easy airport parking = good thing for this tired face after a long weekend away

They had GREAT service! Before I had even gotten my bag out of my car a shuttle had pulled up with a friendly man ready to help me get settled. Check out the sweet ride, which delivered safely, easily, and happily to my direct terminal (BIG deal in the crazy busy ATL airport) in no time at all..

You know this Georgia fan appreciated it. As I also appreciated the complimentary USA Today paper (especially later during my layover when I realized my Nook had died on me and I had no other way to kill time). You also receive a complimentary beverage of your choosing (without the alcohol, folks!) when you leave.

A nice little surprise and certainly needed after running a half marathon earlier that day. I highly suggest The Parking Spot if you ever are in need of airport parking. They have many locations available.

When I got home from The Parking Spot, look what greeted me.

Peter went and chopped off all my baby boy’s hair while I was away! I hated it at first because it made him look too much like a little kid and not my sweet baby anymore. Now, I can’t get over how adorable he looks. Oh boy, I’m in trouble when he gets older and girls start swooning over him.

And we can’t leave out my other precious piece of my heart.

This big girl had her 4 year old (FOUR?!) check up this past week. For the parents out there, you know that’s a big one. Shots. The first time they really know what’s going on. I dreaded it, but she did alright! We had some tears, but it went much smoother than I anticipated with my drama queen.

She got her lollipop and I rewarded myself the only way I wanted.

My kind of double fisting. I got a smoothie in my left and a coffee in my right. Yea, buddy!

I’ve also been busy getting back into a training schedule again this past week. I took Monday off for rest and then did what I thought would be a slightly easier workout on Tuesday.

Ummmm….I should have known better with the name “boot camp”. Ouch.

This is how I felt with my medicine ball following that workout.

I also got in some runs this past week again, which all felt wonderful. That’s a HUGE blessing (praise God!) after ending many races in a lot of pain this past year. To celebrate, I decked myself out in some of my crazy awesome new gear and met up with some running pals for a run.

Oakley base layer shirt (which performed beautifully), Running Skirt (adorable and actually very functional!), Swiftwick socks (already know they will be the sock I keep grabbing for runs), and Altra shoes (will take some getting used to but no soreness after 4 miles and felt very kind to my feet)

For the group run, I met up with some of my local Running Divas to share some swag courtesy of Rock N Roll New Orleans before heading out for a “Lagniappe Lap” (which means “a little something extra”) for training.

NOTE: If you’re thinking about signing up, the price increases on October 31. Beat the price increase and then save an extra $10 with code ROCKNOLA3. Come hang out with me there!

Other workouts this week included a 6 miler on the treadmill followed by a short full body strength session and then Physique 57 already this morning. Whew! Making me hungry. Naturally, when you talk about working up a sweat you have to talk about food, too.

I’m in LOVE with Honey Crisp apples during the fall. #thebestfruit #tinyfruitiscute

I’m also in love with this chick and whenever we get the chance to have a sushi date.

My dinner date with Lee this past week was a welcome break to the week. We, of course, sat around and chatted for an hour and a half while eating some of the best sushi around. Go figure that we discovered it in a hole in the wall place that rarely has more than 5 people dining. Whatever. It’s good stuff.

And now I best be off! I have a fall festival for Makenzie’s school later this morning and, before that, I need to pick me up some more of this…

…and other goodies from my favorite store around. Have a great weekend, y’all!

Your Turn – Do you ever use off-site parking for airport travel? Ever run in a running skirt? What is one item you must get at your next trip to the grocery store?

FitFluential LLC compensated me for this Campaign. All opinions are my own.

2 molly @ heart, sole & cereal October 26, 2012 at 6:42 am

oh my gosh i cannot believe the haircut happened while you were away! although maybe it had to be done that way? i have no kids (yet) but my sister in law informs me that a haircut is a BIG deal. he looks absolutely adorable :)

i always use off-site parking because i’m a cheap-o. i don’t have the parking spot at airports near me but my bf always uses it in houston and he loves the mess out of it. i think he’d start blogging just to wax poetic about the parking spot if he could!

3 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats October 26, 2012 at 6:52 am

I’be always wanted to try a running skirt! At first I thought they were just silly but now that I actually run distances they sound super comfortable (and cute!). And I’ve talked myself out of RNR New Orleans, lol and RNR DC, I think I need a little time off marathon training to focus on some other things in my life next spring (like… What do I do when I graduate?! Ha).

4 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:11 pm

Boooooo!!! Although I do understand. What to do after graduating, is *kind of* important. ;)

5 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey October 26, 2012 at 7:27 am

YESSSS more horseradish hummus!!! And OMG B looks adorable!!!!

6 Linz @ Itz Linz October 26, 2012 at 7:45 am

We live just ten minutes from the airport so we never have to deal with parking at the airport – thank goodness! you look great in all your new gear! :)

7 Lauren October 26, 2012 at 8:10 am

I may be naive but I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of off-site parking for airport travel. I think I should look into though because I’m traveling pretty soon. Have a great weekend love!

8 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:12 pm

Oh my gosh! It is the best thing ever. Cheaper than parking at the airport and helpful if its difficult to have someone pick you up and drop you off. Peter would have to take half days to take me when I travel, so it’s worth paying to park and not terrible for off-site stuff.

9 Heather October 26, 2012 at 8:12 am

I absolutely hate you will be running my beloved Rnr NOLA And I wont even BE THERE!!! ug. So so sorry. I am running a race in NOLA tomorrow called the Jazz half though, can’t wait!
also, yay for running skirts, now do you see why I have been singing their praises (and then worked for them!?!) love.

10 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:13 pm

Yes, I do! I even thought of you during my run and that you would be so proud.

11 Lee October 26, 2012 at 8:16 am

I always use pre-flight parking because they have coupons on their website. Does the Parking Spot have that? If so, I’ll definitely start going there instead if they give out a bottle of water.

How did you make that collage from the sushi night? Is it an app?

12 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:16 pm

Its an app called photo grid that I use.

I didn’t see coupons directly on their site but it does sound like they regularly share them through an email subscription, Twitter, and Facebook.

13 Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots October 26, 2012 at 8:31 am

so weirdly enough you were in my dream last night, we were at a blogger conference and you were a professional massus and were giving everyone massages. But the weirder thing was you were this great awesome runner (obvi) but you were a chain smoker! I woke up and was like what the heck was that dream! haha hope you have a nice weekend!

14 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:16 pm

dang. you caught my secret. chain smoking masseuse. haha!

15 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table October 26, 2012 at 8:55 am

I’m totally spoiled – when I go to their airport the client pays so I park right at the door. Or if its personal I can walk to MARTA.

You and Lee look so cute! I want to join you guys one day.

My next grocery trip will be more protein and veggies… But the trip AFTeR that will be post competition and I’m going to go crazy up in there. Lol!

16 Marilyn October 26, 2012 at 9:03 am

I had to smile at your Parking Spot raving because I was doing a similar thing two weeks ago. :-) We just discovered that a local university actually runs a parking service on their campus (which is near our regional airport). It was a great experience – stress-free, cheaper than airport parking and some of money goes into scholarships for university students. Great, huh?

17 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:17 pm

It really is a great spot. Ha! Like my little pun? ;)

18 Caroline October 26, 2012 at 9:16 am

I love off site parking. Cheaper and easy! I have a running skirt that I wore in my first half marathon and I loved it! I’m hoping it will be warm enough next weekend for my race to wear it too, but I’m not sure…

19 Rachel @RunningRachel October 26, 2012 at 9:23 am

What a fun week in review!! You rocked the RWhalf and I love how you always make family a priority! :)

20 Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life October 26, 2012 at 9:38 am

Nothung like cute new running gear to get you motivated! I have one running skirt (I actually got it from Target!) and I love it! Adorable, comfortable, and affordable, just how I like it! :) I love Lululemon’s with the ruffles, but they are just a little too $$ for me to justify purchasing right now lol.

21 Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life October 26, 2012 at 9:39 am

Whoops! Sorry for the double post! Tried to make a last minute grammar change and it backfired on me.. :)

22 Jana @ Newly Wife Healthy Life October 26, 2012 at 9:38 am

Ohmygosh your kids are precious! And your little girl did much better than I did getting shots at that age. My dad said I use to go hysterical. Now that I’m older I realize they don’t even really hurt, I think it’s just the fear of a needle and not knowing why you’re having to do it.

24 Heather (Heather's Dish) October 26, 2012 at 10:10 am

you could be the cutest runner ever – i love that Oakley shirt! we’ve only ever used a shuttle service like that a couple times, but i love when we do. so much easier!

25 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions October 26, 2012 at 10:35 am

Hahaha I would think you of ALL people would know that nothing easy comes from a workout labeled “boot camp” haha.

Honey Crisp apples are my faveeee. My grandma once gave me a honey crisp apple for my birthday and it was the greatest present ever haha.

26 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:18 pm

Hahaha! That is true. ;)

27 Alex @ therunwithin October 26, 2012 at 10:54 am

i have yet to try the pumpkin spice coffee, I need to get on that. boy does that hummus look good

28 Jentry Nielsen October 26, 2012 at 12:27 pm

Oh my goodness your kids are so adorable! He does look like a little man with that haircut, so cute though!
Gotta love when you find a good sushi place! They’re golden! ha

29 Amanda @ Romancing the Unusual October 26, 2012 at 12:56 pm

I, for some reason, imagined off site parking would be a bit of a hassle. Good to know it’s not! I’ll have to look into it next time I travel. As far as groceries go, I need to restock pretty much everything! I’ve been crazy busy lately and haven’t been to the grocery store in way too long. It’s on the agenda for the weekend. Have a good one!

30 Alissa October 26, 2012 at 1:02 pm

I am so impressed with your level of fitness. I want to be like that someday! Thanks for the inspiration and the killer Bootcamp workouts!

31 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:19 pm

Hey, I had to start somewhere too! ;)

32 Lissy October 26, 2012 at 1:48 pm

I’m reading this post and thinking, leave your car at the airport??? Such a foreign concept to me. I’d sooner take a train.
We always fly out of Newark and as a general rule, you DO NOT want to leave your car in Newark. It will not be there when you get back. Not all of it anyway. It looks like they have three garages there though. If I ever have to, good information to know :)

33 tinareale October 26, 2012 at 3:26 pm

The place is actually gated and has security patrolling it, so it seemed very safe.

34 [email protected] October 26, 2012 at 2:25 pm

I love that running skirt!

My hubby always drops me off, so no need to use parking :) he’s the bomb

35 Laura @ Mommy Run Fast October 26, 2012 at 2:58 pm

You have a drama queen too? :) Congrats on her hitting 4- such a sweet picture. Glad you like the Parking spot- I’m checking them out later this month. And SO glad you’re running legs are feeling good!! Definitely a blessing when you’ve dealt with injury. Have a great weekend, Tina!

36 Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile October 26, 2012 at 9:53 pm

Your kids are just TOO cute!!! I recently got pumpkin spice coffee, too. I cannot wait to drink it tomorrow!

37 Jill @ Fitness Health and Happiness October 27, 2012 at 5:16 am

Chia seeds! I’m having overnight oats for breakfast this morning and I used my last tablespoon. I can’t be without chia :)

Love the running skirt! After my half this morning I’m going to start transitioning to the Altras. I’m excited to see how I like the zero drop.

It was so amazing meeting you Tina!

38 Kierston October 27, 2012 at 7:16 am

Sushi….so good!

Have a fabulous weekend!!!

39 Brittany (Healthy Slice of Life) October 27, 2012 at 7:17 am

B looks so BIG and you’re right, so handsome! H had a shot yesterday and they’re so sad. I can’t imagine what they are like when they know what is going on. Sounds like M was a rockstar :)

40 Paige @ Your Trainer Paige October 28, 2012 at 8:34 am

Love baby B’s haircut!!
