Good morning! Did you enjoy that extra hour of sleep this weekend (for those who did the time change thing)? I sure did! An extra hour of sleep should happen every Saturday night, in my opinion. I think I would feel a lot more well rested on a weekly basis if we could make that happen. Now, for the next question – did you make the weekend count? Remember – what you do on the weekend adds up. And I did my best to add a lot to my health, wellness, and wholeness bank this weekend.
I started off the weekend with a morning strength workout.
It felt weird hitting up the gym with the kids instead of heading out for a run on Saturday morning, but I liked it just fine. Plus, that full body circuit left me feeling pretty good by the end – my core especially!
After the gym, I had to run a quick errand with the kids for a determined out and back trip to a Hobby Lobby. I have now officially visited every Hobby Lobby in a 20 mile radius of my area trying to nab this one particular ornament. Warning – finding 27 of the same ornament can be quite the challenge. I’ll clue you in on why I need so many of one ornament sometime next week. Nevertheless, Hobby Lobby mission accomplished and I could move on with my morning.
To make up for the time at the gym and shopping, I immediately headed to the park to enjoy the beautiful fall morning to run around with the kids.
We played tag, swung on swings, and basically giggled our way through that hour together before heading home for some lunch…and naps for them to prepare for the big afternoon ahead.
Things got pretty wild for the afternoon and evening….
…at the zoo!
We actually bought memberships earlier this year, went once, and have yet to come back. With a Members Only night, the year winding down, and some good friends attending – we knew we had to make the trek down. I’m certainly glad we did. We had a lot of fun.
It never gets old watching the kids’ excitement over animals. Makenzie and her best friend, Riley, were running around with excitement. Riley wanted to see the elephants…Makenzie wanted to see the pandas.
Braedon just wanted out of his stroller to see anything and everything.
It was a good time to visit and we had the chance to see pretty much everything at the Atlanta Zoo.
My favorites were the panda bears and then the gorillas. They are so interesting to watch! Plus, we caught them at feeding time which was really neat to witness. Although not as “exciting” shall we say as witnessing goats up close and personal in the petting zoo.
We watched one pee on a woman. We tried to warn her, but it was just too late. Ewww. The kids would have stayed much longer but my friend, Danielle, and I were pretty done after that. So we lured the kids out with promises of a carousel ride. That got them moving pretty quickly.
I love the carousel! It was the first ride I ever rode with Makenzie when she was younger and this weekend I got to enjoy it with Braedon for his first “carnival ride” experience.
Who would you say is more excited? Kid is already looking at me like “sheesh, mom, you’re embarrassing me”. Get used to it little man. This woman ain’t ever calming down her love for you two.
By that time the night finally started to wind down with a picnic dinner – with Subway, of course.
It’s kind of our go-to for picnic style dinners. I always go for the club with spinach, tomato, onion, pickles, olives, extra jalapenos (gotta have the jalapenos!), and spicy mustard. I like my mouth on fire.
After dinner we made a quick pit stop into the Members Only night festival tent. Which was kind of a let down, but the kids still liked it. They got to dance, jump in a jumpy play thing (with kids 3x their size that made both of us mommas nervous), and hang out with…
…whatever this creature thing is. I guess if the kids end the night in smiles, it was a successful evening! And a “wild” (ha!) weekend! Come back later this afternoon for a “wild” Move It Monday!
