Scenes from the Week

by tinareale on November 30, 2012

With such a busy week this week, Friday sure did sneak up on me. I’m thrilled for this weekend. We have some holiday spirit happening this evening, a football filled afternoon/evening tomorrow (Goooooo Dawgs!), and then the typical family filled day with church and the return of our weekly small group on Sunday. This weekend will be a good one, I just know it. How about you? Any fun plans?

Before I get to the weekend I want to recap some of the moments of the week so far. Time for Scenes from the Week! You know. Things besides seeing Beauty and the Beast on Broadway.

Makenzie received this princess PlayDoh castle for her birthday and we finally opened it up recently. I now officially know why my mother used to cringe when we asked to play with our PlayDoh toys.Plus, that stuff gets painful when it falls on the floor, dries, and you accidentally step on it hours later. The price we pay for our kids to have fun with goop.

Then they repay us by doing things like this:

That would be my bedroom doorknob, locked. From the outside by my sweet, sweet daughter who thought it would be fun to lock and shut our door before returning to bed on her naptime bathroom break. I would love to get in her head and see the thought process of toddlers sometime. And the thought process of the people who lived in this house before us and used a key lock for their bedroom doorknob. That was some fun figuring out how to break into your own bedroom.

Good thing she’s cute.

And pretty much the center of my world.

In other news, I picked up a few new things for the week because I seemed to run out of some of my favorites all at the same time.

I picked up a new journal I needed for my morning devotional time.

I cannot wait to fill it up with prayers and reflections from my daily morning Bible study. Writing is so therapeutic for me. Plus, it will go quite well alongside one of my favorite new travel coffee mugs.

As I said on Instagram, I like my coffee like I like my God – strong.

While out and about recently, I also had to stock up on the following:

I can never seem to avoid the soap sale at Bath and Body Works. I just love that stuff!

Probably for the same reason I can never seem to go into Target and come out with just the items on my list. When I went this week, Justin’s Maple Almond Butter happened to fall into my cart.

I justify this jar that costs gold on the fact that I cannot find another cheap mega jar of Maranatha almond butter at Sam’s Club. Justin’s is better anyway. I can’t wait to get my hands on some vanilla someday.

Now, for a motivational thought to carry you into the weekend. The weekend still counts and we can often lose that determination we started with on Monday. Have fun, but stay balanced and remember that your body doesn’t stop working at 5pm on a Friday…so you shouldn’t stop treating it right. #theweekendcounts

Have a healthy, happy weekend friends!

Your Turn:

  • What is a recent little, fun purchase you made?
  • Did you like PlayDoh as a kid? If you’re a parent…how do you feel about it now? Haha!
  • How are you staying healthy and showing that #theweekendcounts?

Weellll it’s not a “little” purchase, but I did some online shopping for myself last night. Whoops – I ended up getting a long tunic sweater and some ponte leggings – free shipping!

3 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More November 30, 2012 at 7:30 am

haha! Just remember that the bedroom door thing is one of those “we can look back and laugh on it” things, even if in the moment it seems like a “WHAT?!”

And like you said, at least she’s cute. ;)

The play dough thing… gah! My three kids love it but, I only let them use it when we are playing outside on the driveway, good thing we live in sunny SoCal so they have plenty of opportunities to make a mess. I love Justin’s butters, we can’t splurge right now so I am loving the Trader Joes Sun Butter mixed into my greek yogurt. And your discipline quote resonates with me, just read a quote by Roald Dahl that spoke of self discipline and it is key in so many areas of life, yes? Have a great weekend!

I went for a nice 12km run this morning #theweekendcounts and plan to get out in the cold fresh air this afternoon for a little walk with the dog; the rest of the weekend is jam packed with work and study and hopefully starting Christmas shopping. I loved playdough and still love it now…but it needs to be played with at the table!!! :) Justins Maple is amazing! iHerb don’t have the Vanilla either…I’m beginning to think they’ve (or Justin himself!) has stopped making it!

Haha oh boy, Mackenzie is getting to that age where she is too cute for her own good. :) She is so stinking adorable though so I’m sure it’s hard to stay mad for long. :)

Have a wonderful weekend girl!

Yikes on the door! We have the same thing on our door knobs so the husband switched them around so the lock is on the outside.

I bought myself a mens t-shirt for $6 (while x-mas shopping for dh) the material was so soft and had a cute design!

I have no problems with play dough as long as my boys play with it in certain areas. They are allowed to use it on an old plastic table cloth that is huge. We also use this for painting projects. They also can play with it on the kitchen floor. It is so much easier to sweep my kitchen floor then make sure it all gets picked up by the vacuum.

Hey Tina! I’ve been wanting to have more regular alone time with God in the morning. I’ve never done a morning devotional or a self-lead Bible Study. Do you have any good book recommendations that might help lead me through either of those? Love your new journal, btw.

Oh Play Doh… I loved the stuff. We’d even make the homemade version sometimes! I know what you mean though – my mom must have been pretty darn patient to let us play with it all the time. It can be a mess! Mmm Justin’s! Yum! You HAVE to try the vanilla! It’s SO good!

11 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions November 30, 2012 at 10:37 am

Tina, I can’t thank you enough for posting that quote today. This doesn’t really relate to fitness, but yesterday I treated someone in a way I’m not proud of, and I know I need to apologize for my actions. I don’t think anyone likes to admit that they did something wrong, let alone admit that they were a world class jerk, but just because I don’t want to doesn’t mean I don’t need to, nor does it mean I don’t owe this person an apology for being so unfairly mean to them. I have plans to call them in about an hour (since it’d be difficult for us to see each other face-to-face, a phone call’s the best I can do), and I’m definitely not looking forward to it. I don’t believe in coincidence, and I really think God used your blog today to reassure me that I’m going to be okay in making this phone call, even if it’s going to be tough.

Oh play-doh! We have a love/hate relationship. I love it because it entertains my kids for hours. I hate it when it comes out in their poop the next day!

13 Linz @ Itz Linz November 30, 2012 at 12:08 pm

a fun little purchase i’ve made recently is a jug of chocolate milk! random, yes, but we don’t keep it in the house because we go through it so quickly! once in awhile though, itz such a treat!!

14 clare @ fittingitallin November 30, 2012 at 1:21 pm

vanilla coming soon! :)

15 Stefanie @ Thin Vegetarian November 30, 2012 at 2:07 pm

When I was 5 or 6, my room had a lock on the outside because I never used to stay in bed when it was time to sleep and my younger brother thought it would be funny to lock me inside while I was listening to music. Everyone thought I had just closed the door and after lots of banging I got out and the doorknob was reversed! I have also been locked out of my room by him from the outside as well…I learned early how to use a screwdriver and take the doorknob off to open the door!

16 Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength November 30, 2012 at 2:25 pm

The soap sale and the big candle sales. I can’t stop. ;-)

17 Becca November 30, 2012 at 8:28 pm

Needed that quote today! I quit halfway through my workout because I just didn’t feel like finishing. Now I feel like I need to go finish! :D

18 Coco November 30, 2012 at 10:16 pm

When I remember my kids playing with Play-Doh, I think of the little bits ground into the carpet in our sunroom. And the smell!

How have I never noticed Justin’s Almond Butter at Target?? I’ve never actually had it, but read about it on plenty of blogs & have wanted to try it for quite some time. Definitely have to hit up Target sometime soon!
