“Power Mommas” & Some Quick Workouts

by tinareale on January 17, 2013

I may be touring Nature Made headquarters and factories today, but that doesn’t mean I will leave you without some good reading. I have this week’s guest post all ready for you. This week, Tracey from Aspire Fitness will give us even more quick workout options. We really have no excuses! Get moving and have a great day!

*********************

Today, a dear friend of mine gave birth to her fourth child – a baby girl, Stella Joy. We got word that her water broke during my 530am Interval class. Two women taking the class, both friends of the new mom as well, shared the excitement with me, each of us knowing that while we were plugging away at jumping lunges & box jumps {and there is nothing fun about either of those}, our friend was, at the same time, in the process of completing the greatest workout of all – giving birth.

I left class elated, and emotional. I remember the birth of my youngest like it was yesterday, and she is 3 1/2. {I remember bits and pieces from my older three, I admit…the details are a bit sketchy for me. My husband becomes my memory for them!} I remember the feeling of overwhelming joy that comes hand in hand with giving birth – it doesn’t matter if it’s your first or your fifth. Welcoming new baby loves into the world is the most amazing thing ever. Ever.

So, mommies out there, thinking about my amazing friend MADE me take pause & think about how amazing we mommies are – that we can grow babies, birth them, nurture them and watch them grow into little people, crazy tweens, young adults, grown-ups. Pretty cool, huh?

It really brings me to a phrase that I say over and over to my clients that in my heart I REALLY believe to be true: We are so much stronger than we think. Now this goes for moms as well as those who aren’t moms. Men too, you’re pretty strong too. But for the purpose of my sappy self, I’m focusing on all you power mommas out there.
That’s right…I said POWER MOMMAS.

Now tell me this – do YOU consider yourself a power momma? Or do you spend (cross out) waste your time looking in the mirror, wishing you looked differently, wishing you could lift more, or run faster, or be skinnier, or look younger? Do you celebrate all you do for everyone in your life?

More importantly, do you take time to celebrate YOU by treating yourself to healthy food and proper workouts? Do you take time out of your crazy, insane, never-ending role as a power momma to become a stronger, more powerful YOU? If you are like 99.9% of the power mommas out there, I know the answer. And it is a resounding, LOUD NO!

SO change that. Change your life, one step at a time, by focusing on the small things that can make a BIG difference in your overall health. Workout when you can. Eat clean. Drink your water. Stretch. Sleep enough. Sing {ok, I love to sing, so I had to put that one in there!} ;)

Point is….you power mommas have a lot of little people – and not so little people – counting on you. My mind and heart goes back to my friend, who is embarking on the most rewarding and perhaps most challenging time in her new baby’s life. Lack of sleep, baby moods, breastfeeding challenges, lack of sleep {did I mention that one already?} Her little Stella will be relying on her for every single thing, and my friend (definitely a power momma) has got to power herself too! {Not that I worry about my friend in this area….she finished an Ironman while pregnant, for heaven sakes. She is, for all intents and purposes, amazing}

On that happy note, I hope you take some time to do the following:

1. Make a mental note of all you offer to those in your life. {Because it’s a lot, peeps!}
2. Make a mental note of all the BEAUTY and STRENGTH you have inside and out.
3. Read on for some, what I call, mini workouts. These are the little workouts I pull out when I know I won’t make it to the gym or on that run. Life happens. Don’t let your workouts fall by the wayside when it does.
4. Lastly, go hug those kiddos. Take some time to remember their BIRTH day. Remember the excitement, the anticipation, the joy, the emotion, the love. And then tell them you love em!

Oh yeah, power mommas, we are ALL stronger than we think!
All the best in health!

these days it’s my ability to unpack and clean and move and DO DO DO without collapsing which reminds me of my strength :-)

This is such an inspiring post! Sometimes its so easy to just get caught up in going and doing and being, and difficult to remember to appreciate inner strength and see that strength in others.
