Workout Love & Hot Oat Love

by tinareale on January 28, 2013

It’s been a few days since I’ve updated the ole blog. Life happens. We had some sickness going on in our house, which is never fun to see your little one suffer. I also just needed some time to think over and reflect upon some personal stuff. I may feel like sharing it all later, but for now I want to talk about something happy. Workouts make me happy. Giving yummy stuff away also makes me happy. So let’s do both! First, a little recap of last week’s workouts.

I did a couple yoga classes (which I continue to love more and more) and a couple strength workouts from Best Body Bootcamp. The following few workouts were the highlight of my week, though.

Yes, indeed! I have now given myself the full month off running and feel ready to get back to it. I promised myself I wouldn’t jump back into runs, though, and take it slow and steady. It definitely felt slow and steady with Couch to 5K, but I’m ready to stick to the program and hopefully come back stronger and healthier in the long run. *pun intended hehe*

A good workout buddy always makes a workout more fun! One morning I wanted some good core work. So, I simply popped in a Physique 57 DVD and did 10 to 15 minutes of core work from the DVD. Makenzie was making me laugh the whole time. She tried to do the exercises with me and would look at me struggling. Finally she turned to me and said “Come on, Mommy! This is easy. I can even do it!”. Thanks for the motivation, kid. Ha!

The new RPM release from LesMIlls (release 57) takes things up a notch. Wait, not just a notch. Like a thousand notches. The entire workout included tracks with higher resistance and speed pushes at those higher levels of resistance. My quads burned. And I loved every second of it.

Now I’m inspired and ready for another great week of workouts. First, I need to get some fuel in me. Some Move It Monday style fuel? I’m craving a little hot oat action in the form of Love Grown Hot Oats. My LAST one!

IMGP4866-001

Love Grown Foods launched their new line of Hot Oats about a month ago and I have certainly enjoyed trying the different flavors to share with you.

IMGP4863-001

They have been wonderful for a quick breakfast since they cook up so quickly. You either add hot water and let the oats sit or microwave for 60 seconds on high and let sit for an extra minute or two to reach your desired consistency. I’m pretty picky about oat consistency and was able to reach the perfect texture with the microwave method. Although I will say a bit of my oats exploded every time that way. That’s not so cool.

See the mess on the side of the container? haha!

I would never choose these over stove top oats (well, maybe I would for the peach or blueberry flavors!) but I must say Love Grown hit the sweet spot on an instant oatmeal. The REAL ingredients as an instant oatmeal seals the deal for me. Plus some other great facts:

  • under 250 calories.
  • 7 grams of protein.
  • 5 grams of fiber.
  • sodium free
  • gluten-free

Love Grown is known for wanting to spread the love, which is just what they plan to do.

IMGP4869-001

Ah, I LOVE the new 57!!! I still have yet to teach it but the practice kicked my booty! So glad you are finding other enjoyable workouts during your hiatus! It always amazes me when I venture out of just running. I always think I’m in such good shape because I run a lot, but I tend to prove to myself that running doesn’t necessarily make an excellent athlete. Yesterday, I did a hot power yoga sculpt class and it kicked my butt! Never thought I would say that from a yoga class. :)

I did a Cathe Ab Circuits DVD this morning in my hotel room before my run and it was so hard! I am so used to teaching abs in class, and doing them as I go, and somehow when I teach, I feel superhuman, in a sense, and can bang them out, but doing them solo and not teaching them, SO much harder! Noted ;-) Need to do that more! So glad you are back to running – me too!! My third run, slow and steady, and no pain! Yay us ;-) hehe. And I totally want to try these oats, so so bad! would have been amazing on my work trip this week!!! And end long comment ;-)

I’m currently in the injury timeout box, so the fact that I still got up early and did an upper body workout this morning is a good thing! I may not be able to use the legs much right now, but that means I *get* to focus on arms and core instead! Yay!! (But I still miss running oh so much!)

I ran and interval 8 x 800 in preparation for a big weekend in May, half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon with my wife on Sunday. Its her first full and I will be with her for moral support. I am hoping to PR in the half with a sub 1:25.

I recently tried Yoga Sculpt at Core Power Yoga, and it was an awesome workout. Since the class is heated, you sweat a ton AND you lift weights (my arms were screaming at me) AND you incorporate a few yoga postures. Fun!

I’ve been trying to get back into swimming lately, so thats been my best workout this week. Its hard because I used to swim competitively and now I can’t even keep up with my times from when I was 10 years old, but it still feels amazing to get in the pool.
