Healthy Living Survey

by tinareale on February 21, 2013

Sometimes you just have to go with a little fun. Especially when your brain has checked out for the week in anticipation of your week long cruise. It happens. I’ve given you a workout, a recipe, a motivational thought, and an inspirational guest post this week. I say we do a little random now. And what else screams random fun than a blogger survey making its way around? I’ll share my answers, then would love to hear yours!

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

I bet you don’t need more than one guess…

Yep. The usual. Oatmeal with 1/2 banana and a big ole dollop of almond butter. It never gets old. Never ever.

2. How much water do you drink each day?

I’m really not sure on the exact amount, but I tend to drink 4-5 of my water bottles full every day. I just checked the size and it is an 18 oz bottle, so I guess that means I drink 72-90 ounces of water every day.  I keep it on me at all times so it is easy to do.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

I really have such a  hard time with this question because I truly love ALL forms of fitness. I look forward to each and every workout I do – whether a run in the open air, a yoga session at the studio or at home with Reflexion Yoga, or a strength workout at the gym or with a Cathe DVD.

I love it all!!! I really don’t think I can choose since they all fulfill me in different ways.

4. How many calories do you eat each day?

Ummmm???? I don’t really track at all. However, I did recently try out the My Fitness Pal app to review it for referring to clients and Best Body Bootcamp participants. When tracking for that I regularly ate between 1900-2300 calories depending on the day. I also know that I eat more than that when training for races. #runnerhungerisfierce

5. What are you favorite healthy snacks?

IMGP3320-1

My two go-to snacks are either some version of my favorite smoothie blend or plain Greek yogurt with some fruit mixed in. They always hold me over enough and satisfy me with the fiber and protein mix.

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

I get on kicks for my lunches a lot where I’ll eat the same lunch for a few weeks in a row and then mix it up. I have a bad habit of eating the same thing all the time. Lately I have been having a large salad topped with Trader Joe’s edamame hummus plus an egg and cheese wrap on the side. I also am a big fan of taco salad bowls, sandwiches, leftovers, soup, and sometimes even a classic PBJ with veggies and hummus on the side.

7. What is your favorite body part to train?

I love chest and back because I always feel fairly strong when working those areas. With upper body I can really push it and it hurts so good. I also love core and balance exercises because they always provide a fun challenge and are really so important. Give my Functional Core Circuit a look!

8. What is your least favorite body part to train?

Anything lower body. I feel as though I can’t push my leg training hard without risking injury or overtraining, so I don’t get as good of a “pump” feeling. I still really enjoy it but it always feels a little more lackluster than other workouts in comparison.

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

Can I change this question? I don’t believe in food being “bad” by any stretch of the imagination. Enjoy whole, real foods the majority of the time and then if something less nutritious happens on occasion, so be it. Getting off my soap box to answer the question now.

  • pretty much any dessert (although ice cream and fresh baked goods rank highest)
  • pizza
  • a burger with crazy toppings and sweet potato fries on the side (always a post-race fave!)
  • beer!!!!

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

You betcha!!! Again, a diet based on real foods is most important but we can still have gaps in our nutrition. I take a multivitamin, fish oil, and extra Vitamin B and Vitamin D. I think you know which brand…

Nature Made Vitamelts

11. How often do you eat out?

About once a week. We do tend to get Subway out for an easy dinner Sunday nights on the way home from our small group meetings. Then we will eat out about once a month for a date night. I’ll be eating out a lot next week, though. Hello, cruise food and local cuisine at ports of call!

12.  Do you eat fast food?

Not a huge fast food fan at all besides Subway and the very occasional Chick Fil A and if we hit up Starbucks for oatmeal when on the road. I have nothing against fast food, but don’t think it’s the easiest or most affordable option so prefer my quick fix meals instead. More of my thoughts on fast food.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

Definitely Peter! I am so blessed to call him my husband.

 P1250084

14. Do you have a gym membership?

The child care, spin and yoga classes, loads of great fitness equipment at my current gym location is well worth that $30/month, so most definitely I have a membership.

15. How many hours of sleep do you get each night?

I need at least seven. It gets ugly if I don’t get at least 7 per night. Which means I am in bed usually by 9 pm at the very latest with my 4 am wake-up calls. #callmegrandma

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?

While I do tend to consume more “treat” type food on the weekend, typically on a Saturday, I don’t view it as a cheat day at all. I don’t limit things and aim for balance at all times. It just happens that most social things (like parties or meals out) happen on a Saturday.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

Our final excursion for our cruise is a “bar hop” scenic food and beach tour. What does that tell you?

source

Okay, so I don’t drink much alcohol. I usually have 1-2 beers per week, but I do enjoy a good adult beverage and will for sure be having a margarita (or two) on that beach tour.

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

I’m part of a running group which I do enjoy running with on occasion. I also have people I love to see at the gym (like my fave spin instructor). I consider them workout buddies, but I don’t have anyone I regularly meet to workout together. I prefer solo workouts typically as a stress release and time to clear my head.

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

It’s been SO long…but I think all the ways it has taught me more about myself. Cheesy, but true. I have been through so much on my fitness journey – from obsession to binge eating to finally coming to a place of self-respect. It has been a life lesson and continues to provide learning experiences (like this whole past year of injury battle and learning to be patient).

20. What is the last healthy thing you did?

Sat down to an oatmeal breakfast with my kiddos. Smiling and loving is definitely healthy…as is that all too typical bowl of oatmeal. I guess we’ve gone full circle now. Winking smile

Who is your biggest supporter? What’s the last healthy thing you did? Do you have a workout buddy? Or any of the questions above. Would love to hear from YOU!

I love your outlook on things :-)
My bedtime is also 9pm. I feel a little lame sometimes when I think about that, but I also feel a little insane when I set my alarm for 4:10am!

4 Linz @ Itz Linz February 21, 2013 at 8:13 am

Ah we’re so opposite when it comes to training body parts – I LOVE lifting legs as I feel they’re the strongest part on me, and I definitely struggle with my upper body since itz weakest!! I still love you though hehe

5 Sarah February 21, 2013 at 8:17 am

I am an early to bed early to rise person to, but I feel so accomplished when I get up early and get so much done before everyone is up! Biggest supporter is the hubby! Last healthy thing I did – weight training this morning!

6 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:06 am

Doesn’t it feel so good to get so much done in the morning? Definitely my most productive time.

7 Lee February 21, 2013 at 8:18 am

Last healthy thing I did was packed up a salad to take to work for lunch.

8 Katie @ Talk Less, Say More February 21, 2013 at 8:40 am

I love a good survey!! For me healthy living completely changed my life. Like you, it taught me a lot about myself but even more than that, it allowed me to really change and FIX the little (and not so little) ailments I dealt with my whole life that I thought were “normal.” I realized that exercise and eating real foods, are what allows my body to THRIVE. Crazy, isn’t it?! ;)

9 Amanda @ Romancing the Unusual February 21, 2013 at 9:20 am

I am with ya on the working out alone as a form of stress relief. I like having a buddy occasionally but for the most part, I’m solo when working out. It’s almost meditative to do it alone.

10 Sharla February 21, 2013 at 9:31 am

I feel like there is something wrong with me because no matter how hard I try I just can’t get into oatmeal!!

Hope you have a wonderful time on your cruise!

11 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:07 am

It’s not for everyone. I just find it’s the most filling and satisfying for me. And then I always eat lots of eggs, smoothies, and other bfast type stuff for snacks and lunches. Haha!

12 Sarah @ Blonde Bostonian February 21, 2013 at 9:33 am

I definitely have a running buddy! She helps motivate me through tough races and even paced me in my last half marathon PR!

13 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries February 21, 2013 at 9:40 am

I love your answers! You stand out as truly HEALTHY, not over the top, and balanced – I admire that so much!

14 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:08 am

You can’t see me, but I’m blushing.

15 Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots February 21, 2013 at 9:57 am

love this survey, definitely going to have to use it next week! My parents/ boyfriend are my biggest support and the last healthy thing I did was get my booty to the gym this am even though i just wanted to stay in bed!

16 purelytwins February 21, 2013 at 10:20 am

love this survey!!! and yes I am lucky and have to workout buddies my husband and twin sister (virtually) :)
hope you have a great day!
xoxo

17 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:08 am

I want a twin!

18 Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning February 21, 2013 at 10:32 am

Reading this survey just makes me love you even more! We have so much in common (and both have such good taste) :)
My husband is my biggest supporter for sure- and he gets a BIG gold star for everything he’s supported my though over the last year. He’s very fit and active, but we rarely work out together. The only time that happens is when we travel (and use either the hotel gym or a local one) and I LOVE that. We are really good at pushing each other!

19 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions February 21, 2013 at 10:35 am

Haha I love doing leg work because my legs are soo much stronger than my arms (not that that’s at all surprising), and I feel like I can handle a lot more training them than my upper body. I feel ya on the injury thing, though. When I’m running a lot, nearly all of my leg strength training gets put on the back burner. Gotta let those babies rest every now and again, you know?

20 [email protected] February 21, 2013 at 12:18 pm

Love reading bloggers answers to these fun surveys; but do you really not think much of fast food? Its not even real food! My biggest supporter is my mom because she’s really into CrossFit and healthy eating, can’t wait to move back to be around her and run some races with her! The last healthy thing I did was run and make it to CrossFit every day this week! :) And I don’t have a workout buddy besides the people at my box. I love to workout alone for some head-clearing time and because I like to focus on what I need to get done without having to worry about someone else.

21 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:10 am

Well, I guess saying “nothing against fast food” was a bit scaled back. I’m not a fan and don’t think it’s the best – especially the way Americans rely on it (which is what the post I linked to about) – but also don’t think its a huge deal *on occasion*. Hope that makes sense. :)

22 sarah k @ the pajama chef February 21, 2013 at 12:32 pm

this post makes me want a smoothie! too bad its 30 degrees here…i rarely drink them in the winter :)

23 Dana February 21, 2013 at 12:33 pm

I head early to bed as well, 5am workouts come fast so in bed by 10.
My cheat foods are chocolate and wine.
I love running and I totally agree, my appetite when training for a half marathon is verocious, my husband laughs at how much I eat.

24 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:11 am

Peter too! He says its scary how much I can put down when race training.

25 Katie @ KatieEnPursuit February 21, 2013 at 12:56 pm

Fun survey Tina, thanks for giving us a glimpse into some of your favs! One of my biggest supporters is my Mom for sure! And I’m lucky to have a few workout buddies, it makes “friend dates” more fun!

26 [email protected] February 21, 2013 at 1:11 pm

This was such a fun post! i think I am stealing this survey- thanks ;)

I like training my legs actually– they’re so fun to be able to push hard!! hehe

27 Emily February 21, 2013 at 1:27 pm

My husband is my biggest supporter, I’m newly OBSESSED with Pure Barre (barre workouts in general!), and I need at least 7 hours of sleep too. I’m totally worthless on less lol

Great post!

28 jobo February 21, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Oatmeal – NEVER GETS OLD! So true ;) And I love that Peter is your biggest supporter, that’s the best!! I also now am way craving sweet potato fries. gee thanks ;-P JK!

29 Heather @ Better With Veggies February 21, 2013 at 2:14 pm

My biggest supporter is definitely my hubby too – I’m so glad we have been blessed with such wonderful men in our lives! :)

30 Kelly @ Cupcake Kelly's February 21, 2013 at 2:43 pm

What cruise/cruise line are you going on? That last excursion sounds awesome :) . I also crave a burger after a long run.

31 tinareale February 22, 2013 at 7:12 am
