Cozumel Bar Hop

by tinareale on March 7, 2013

The last vacation recap. The last days. I can hardly believe it was almost a week ago. Apparently time doesn’t just fly when you’re having fun. It plain and simply flies regardless.

So, back to the last days of our cruise. Friday we had our last port of call – Cozumel, Mexico. I had been to Cozumel on a cruise before and really enjoyed it. My family and I mainly hit up the ruins and all the tourist area of the island, so I wanted to do something different when going with Peter.

Different we did. The Cozumel Bar Hop! This bar hop takes you to the other side of the island to visit four different stops. We opted for this tour for a few different reasons – the rave reviews, to see the other scenic side of the island, the foodie aspect, and for plain ole fun!

First stop on the tour? A cute little beach side bar called Punta Morena.

First things first at each stop – a complimentary mini welcome drink.

I can’t remember what this drink was called but it had pineapple juice and some anise flavored (licorice) liquer. It was surprisingly very good and Peter and I ordered a full size one to share as our first bar hop drink.

They had swings as bar stools. Is that not the coolest idea for a beach bar?!

While sipping our drink, we enjoyed the fine beach views and walked around. It really was a beautiful side of the island to see. Too bad the weather was all grey and nasty, though.

After about forty five minutes or so, we all loaded back up on the bus to head to the next stop – a place called Coconuts that sits up on a little cliff looking out over the beach.

Then we kicked it off as we did before – this time with an actual shot though. Eeee! I don’t know how long it had been since I took a shot. As my face likely shows.

Since we heard that you had to go for the margaritas at this location, we decided to still get one.

Whoooo! That was one STRONG margarita. I’m glad Peter and I planned to share drinks through the day. We also ordered some fresh fish tacos that came with some pico de gallo to soak up some of that tequila.

I tell you what – quality, fresh ingredients make such a huge difference in flavor. Some of the best fish tacos I’ve ever tasted, that’s for sure.

I would have to say Coconuts was my favorite stop for the view, the good food, the margarita made right, and the cute animals all around. I got some doggy cuddles from this cute little lady.

Not enough though, because we had to head on. Our third stop didn’t include any pictures due to a camera snafu. It wasn’t anything too extraordinary, though. We split a pina colada and talked with some fellow bar hoppers about all the cruises they’ve been on. It was fun!

We can pretend that picture was from the 3rd bar and not the 2nd. Winking smile

Finally, we made our way to the last stop of the day – a place called Rasta’s. I loved this bar! Everyone was so friendly (even more so than the other places we stopped) and they had a great selection of drinks and food. Peter and I really liked the mango margarita we shared…

…as well as the order of coconut shrimp. Find a way to go to Cozumel, bring some cash, and find a way to Rasta’s if you like coconut shrimp.

It was an extremely over-priced $17 for that plate, but I would have paid more. The perfect amount of coconut flavor and crunch from the coconut coating and seriously fresh tasting shrimp. Sadly, the guacamole didn’t quite live up to the drool worthy shrimp.

Nevertheless, a perfect ending to the afternoon and our last port of call.

For the rest of our trip we laid pretty low. The weather on the final sea day was very windy, overcast, and chilly so we stayed indoors a good bit. I napped, read some, and really soaked up the last day for pure relaxation before heading home. We also attended a murder mystery luncheon which was a lot of fun, but I realized I must have forgotten to get any pictures of that. Boo.

Well, that wraps things up. I seriously can’t wait to hit up another cruise in the future. I love traveling with Peter and I’ve literally missed him all this week since I’m not with him 24/7 anymore. At least the weekend is kind of almost here. You feel me?

Would you ever or have you ever done a bar hop or other tour like this?

That sounds like so so much fun. And I love the swings at the bar. Although I can see a lot of people falling OFF of them haha!

2 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats March 7, 2013 at 3:09 pm

hahahaha exactly what I was thinking!

3 Katie H. March 7, 2013 at 7:25 am

I’ve been to that same bar with swings in Cozumel–very fun!

4 Miz March 7, 2013 at 7:47 am

SO SO FUN living vicariously!

5 Angela @ Happy Fit Mama March 7, 2013 at 8:07 am

You had me at beach and margarita’s. I could seriously use a heavy dose of both after the past few weeks!

6 Sarah March 7, 2013 at 8:13 am

I can almost feel the sun all the way here in snowy, cold Indiana!

7 Lee March 7, 2013 at 8:16 am

That sounds like fun. I did a bar hop in Italy when I was like 22, but that’s the only organized one that I’ve done. It involved doing shots from super soaker squirt guns.

I’m so picturing this in my head right now. Hahaha!

9 Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life March 7, 2013 at 8:18 am

Is it wrong to crave a margarita at breakfast, because that’s all I want right now. Looks like a great day! :)

10 Natalie @ freshlifefindings March 7, 2013 at 8:24 am

This looks like so much fun! Im so jealous and Coconuts sounds like a place I’d like. I’m definitely wanting to try making coconut shrimp at home now that you tempted me :) glad you and your husband enjoyed a good time away together!

How fun!! The drinks all sound super tasty and you can’t go wrong with fish tacos, coconut shrimp, and chips with guac! Yummm.

12 Allison March 7, 2013 at 8:53 am

This looks SO fun. It’s 9am here and I already want guacamole and a margarita.

13 Kaitlin @4loveofcarrots March 7, 2013 at 9:25 am

this day sounds like a blast!! I think it would be so fun to bar hop in a tropical place! I am sad that guac at the last place wasn’t as good as you hoped, its always a disappointment when guacamole doesnt impress!

14 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions March 7, 2013 at 9:56 am

Looks like so much fun! I’ve never really done a tropical vacation, but I’d love to hang out at a beach bar like the ones you got to see. Talk about a great time! Plus that food looks really good!

15 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table March 7, 2013 at 10:07 am

I want a cruise bar hop!!! Good all splitting drinks – those look like some generous servings. Gotta love the islands!

16 tinareale March 8, 2013 at 6:53 am

They were giant drinks! And very heavy handed on the tequila. ;)

17 Michelle @ Eat Move Balance March 7, 2013 at 10:48 am

Margaritas are my FAVORITE!! That looks like so much fun . . . I’m craving a tropical getaway now!

18 Traci March 7, 2013 at 11:17 am

This sounds so fun! On our first cruise we did a cooking class in Cozumel. It was sooo fun! We were brought to a resort, cooked an authentic Mexican meal while having pina colada’s & margarita’s, then we ate what we cooked & hung out on the beach at the resort. Another time in Cozumel we did “Salsa & Salsa”. Again we were brought to a resort & were taught how to make 7 different salsa’s & guacamole (while drinking margaritas – BEST I’VE EVER HAD). Afterwards, they taught us how to Salsa dance. So fun!

Oh those do sound like a LOT of fun!

20 Geraldine @ Healthy Living Cailín March 7, 2013 at 12:27 pm

Wow, that looks like my kind of day!! Great drinks and great food. I definitely think the more time I spend with my boyfriend the harder it is to be apart when he or I have to work. After my last holiday I felt like I needed to wean myself off him :-)

21 Betsy March 7, 2013 at 12:52 pm

Looks like so much fun! I have not been on a cruise or a bar hop but I plan to some day!

22 [email protected] Palate March 7, 2013 at 12:57 pm

I feel tipsy just reading that post! Great drink choices though! Looks like you got quite the summer glow going on too!

23 tinareale March 8, 2013 at 6:54 am

Spray tan, baby. ;)

24 [email protected] Palate March 8, 2013 at 12:30 pm

Brilliant!!! Looks really natural!

25 Heather @ Better With Veggies March 7, 2013 at 12:59 pm

I love cozumel, but we usually spend all our time underwater when we’re there. It was the place I had my first seafood in over a year though during our last trip. :)

26 tinareale March 8, 2013 at 6:55 am

I hear they have great diving. We aren’t certified but talked about how it would be cool to get certified and do a diving trip in the future.

27 Melissa March 7, 2013 at 1:06 pm

A cruise bar hop sounds amazing. I’ve done bar hops before, but never in a tropical location! Look like you had a ton of fun :)

28 [email protected] March 7, 2013 at 1:16 pm

I wannnnnnt the beach!! And those coconut shrimps & fish tacos. Yummy!

29 jobo March 7, 2013 at 1:17 pm

SO FUN!! those drinks look super yummy as does that shrimp!!

30 Kelly @ Cupcake Kelly's March 7, 2013 at 3:15 pm

The bar hop sounds awesome! I would definitely swing right off that swing haha, good thing that was the first stop and not the last :)

31 Amanda Perry @ Sistas of Strength March 7, 2013 at 3:36 pm

We did the party bus in Aruba and it started out really fun, but then we got way too tired at the end and had to take a cab home. LOL

That was BEFORE kids. Sigh.

32 tinareale March 8, 2013 at 6:56 am

When I went to Aruba we did a horseback riding tour on the beach and through the cliffy areas. My horse RAN OFF from the group. I was wondering lost by myself for 30 minutes on the edge of a cliff. Haha. Oh, the memories.

33 Angie @ Losing It and Loving It March 7, 2013 at 5:21 pm

Sounds like absolute fun! I don’t know that we would have chosen that activity but after your experience it does sound like something we would like to do. We don’t drink unless it’s rum but my arm could be twisted to try a few new things…..only on vacation lol

Those fish tacos look so good!

I know what you mean about being with hubby for 24/7, it’s so hard to come back after a vacation like that. Always.

34 tinareale March 8, 2013 at 6:57 am

We were hesitant at first because we aren’t huge drinkers but the reviews when researching activities sold us. There were a lot of people who mentioned that even if you aren’t a big drinker its fun for the views, the tour guides, and the food. That sold me! And a couple good margaritas through the day doesn’t hurt. ;)

35 Tara | Treble in the Kitchen March 8, 2013 at 4:38 am

Tina, this looks so fun!! The view looks beautiful, the drinks look tasty, and the food looks so delish! :) I know that if Brian and I did this bar hop we would have to share drinks too!!

36 Lauren (@PoweredbyPB) March 8, 2013 at 2:30 pm

Sounds like fun, mango margherita sounds amazing! Loving the new blog look by the way!
