Friday Five: Blogging Bonuses

by tinareale on March 15, 2013

I’ve been blogging for over three years now (um, wow!) and I keep coming back for more. I mean, why not? It comes with all sorts of great perks! Where else can you get each of these things?

Showing Off Your Adorable Kids

I took Makenzie and Braedon to get hair cuts yesterday. They walked out even cuter than they are already, so of course that warrants a photo share on the blog. Why have a blog if you can’t brag about your kids ans your life, right?

Baby Fix

As much as I adore my children, I have zero desire for a third. Enter all the preggo bloggers out there (pardon me for any I’m missing)! I can follow along and rub their cute baby bumps via my computer screen. Then, coo at the pictures of the little bundles of joy after they arrive. Since I feel like I know these ladies, I can pretend I’m bringing them a meal and hanging in their living room while they tell all about their early mommy days and birth stories. Well, I guess I don’t need a blog to do that seeing as half of my small group is pregnant right now too. It’s baby season, it seems!

Fun Mail

Moving away from the wee ones, how about the blogging bonus of getting fun things in the mail? Like this sweet assortment I found on my doorstep this past week.

love grown love drop

My wonderful Love Grown friends showered me with some extra extra love this love drop (what they call their shipments to ambassadors). Peter stole some of it to take to work for a snack, but I wasn’t about to let him have my rushed morning saviors – the new Hot Oats – or my favorite granolas – Sweet Cranberry Pecan and Cocoa Goodness.

To Keep Peter Sane

I doubt Peter would stick with me if he had to hear all the stuff going through my head, I’m always bursting to share. Poor guy can only take so much.

Alright, you caught me. The previous things were all written in jest. Definitely not to be taken too seriously. Sure, fun mail and bragging on my babies are cool parts of blogging, but I don’t blog for the free stuff or money or in the belief I have anything to brag about – although my kids are super cute in my opinion. Also, Peter reads my blog daily (hi, honey!) so I don’t think it does anything to help him hear less of my rambles. In all seriousness, though, blogging has given me the huge bonus of some great friends!

And Wednesday night I had the chance to hang out with one of these great friends – Lee.

Lee is on the left – picture from earlier this year when we met with Jolene

We tried out a new to us restaurant in the downtown area of Roswell called Ceviche. When perusing options, the menu looked very promising and they had a Scout Mob deal.

We were quickly seated, but not too comfortably. The restaurant itself was very tiny and very cramped. We were practically sitting with the table next to us and Lee had servers carrying trays over her head each time they passed. We settled in, though, and got to chatting. It’d been awhile since our last dinner so we had some catching up to do.

Our food came out relatively quickly following our orders – a ceviche sampler plate for her and lettuce wrapped grilled fish tacos for me.

Ceviche lettuce wraps

Neither of us were impressed with the food. Hers tasted only like lime and mine tasted only like the chipotle sauce they used. I like to tasted the food not just the seasonings/condiments, so we agreed it was kind of a miss in the eating department. Then, since the place was so cramped, we felt almost like we had to leave right away. We didn’t get much time to sit around and talk after eating. Bummer. Regardless, it felt great to hang out. I’m certainly thankful for the awesome friends I have made through blogging. And that’s a completely real bonus to blogging.

What’s a blogging bonus you love? Silly or big! Last fun thing you got in the mail?

Blogging is a creative outlet for me and, yes, spares my husband too! I also really enjoy reading other blogs for inspiration or just some vicarious fun! Did you get a new header or am I just slow to notice? It looks great!

2 tinareale March 18, 2013 at 7:23 am

I got one this past week…so not too slow to notice. Especially with things like readers and busy weeks. ;)

I love all of the above! Minus my sharing of my kids since well, there are none running around this house yet!

4 katie March 15, 2013 at 7:22 am

I love their new cuts! I already told you that on instagram, but damn they look SO SO cute!!

Yes, it seems we have lots of babies coming in the blog world, I love it! You can come visit me anytime and get your baby fix, hehe!

Happy weekend beautiful friend! <3

we live for fun mail and love my BLENDS! Such a blessing.

Sorry for the restaurant. Hope they improve! Looks cool, just needs a little work, yes?

6 Natalie @ FreshLifeFindings March 15, 2013 at 8:36 am

Love this post :) And my sister lives in Roswell and we’ve always talked about going to Ceviche (mostly because of the cute rooftop bar) but now I know it’s not worth it! I hate that when you have a cute restaurant and food that’s average.

7 tinareale March 18, 2013 at 7:24 am

It was such a cute (but cramped) place. Maybe go to the bar for a drink then hit up a different restaurant in the area?

8 Lee March 15, 2013 at 8:49 am

Friends are definitely the best part of blogging! And I didn’t even notice the servers carrying food over my head. I think I was too blinded by the sun. Next time we’ll go somewhere better where we feel less rushed! Great to see you though.

9 tinareale March 18, 2013 at 7:25 am

Haha! I wasn’t sure if it would be good to point out or not. Lets set our next date soon!

blogging bonus? all the friends i’ve made!! i never imagined all the real, true friendships that i’ve made with such like-minded people! including you!! xoxo

11 Michelle @ Eat Move Balance March 15, 2013 at 10:13 am

I’ve loved interacting with so many people that are interested in similar things as me! It’s been amazing so far!

12 Laura @ Mommy Run Fast March 15, 2013 at 10:19 am

Definitely all the new friends I’ve connected with, and many I’ve gotten to meet at races and conferences. And I love having a place to share with people who are interested in the same things. Your kids are adorable!!

13 Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries March 15, 2013 at 10:21 am

I agree, you definitely have some cuties on your hands! The friends I’ve made and people I’ve connected with through blogging is definitely my favorite thing about it. Occasional free stuff in the mail doesn’t hurt either! ;)

14 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions March 15, 2013 at 10:31 am

I feel like I’m not a real blogger because I never get fun things in the mail. Haha kidding, of course (…but I am ridiculously jealous of all the bloggers who do get free things in the mail, especially when those things are FOOD!). Definitely the best thing I’ve got out of blogging are the connections I made with people when I moved to Chicago. It was a really nice and relatively easy way to meet people in the city. A bunch of us get together once a month-ish for a book club, and I love being able to get together with likeminded people (and eat some amaaaaazing food) to hang out and chat.

15 tinareale March 18, 2013 at 7:26 am

I so want an Atlanta blogger book club. That sounds like such a great thing!

16 Athena @ Fitness & Feta March 15, 2013 at 11:22 am

I started my blog because I would get bombarded with questions about what I eat, what workouts I do, etc. and one day I just thought, wouldn’t it be great to just write all of this stuff in one place!? It’s definitely an “outlet” for me as well, and a world that doesn’t make me feel so crazy for being so fitness and food obsessed!

Also, the last fun thing I got in the mail was from my Foodie Penpal :)

17 Melissa March 15, 2013 at 11:57 am

I love all of the above, but I have to add that I also love interacting with strong people that I admire (aka all of the blogs I read). Your children look so cute with their new cuts!

18 Jess March 15, 2013 at 12:44 pm

By far the BEST part about blogging has been ‘meeting’ friends like YOU who just make me smile every time I read their/your words. SO glad to call you a friend my dear, happy blogging!! :)

ps SERIOUSLY jealous of that love drop!!

19 Kelly @ Cupcake Kelly's March 15, 2013 at 1:37 pm

Blogging was a savior for me. Since none of my friends have kids its been hard to relate. I found amazing mom friends in the blogger world.

20 tinareale March 18, 2013 at 7:34 am

That’s me when it comes to fitness friends. Have very few IRL friends that are also that big into working out. So thankful to connect via blogs!

21 Jill @ a Girl in Progress March 15, 2013 at 1:43 pm

I just started blogging recently and I really love it! My goal is always to encourage and inspire the people who come to the blog. I also have such a passion for healthy lifestyles stuff that I can’t help but talk about it to an audience who actually wants to hear it! I think if I tried to talk to my husband about every little healthy lifestyle thing I find cool, he would fall asleep from boredom! Like you said – it’s good to have an outlet.

22 Lisa March 15, 2013 at 3:20 pm

You’re right, so many blogging babies popping out soon;)
I love blogging because I can connect with others who have gone through the same issues I have as well as have that online connection, inspire, encourage, teach, and learn from others. I love it all.
Interacting online is such a unique yet amazing experience!
Your kiddos are SO cute!

23 jobo March 15, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Well, the food LOOKS good in the picture! bummer that it wasn’t that great! and I LOVE that I made it into the pic with Lee!! That was SUCH a fun night!! ALMOST a year ago now? Wow!! And your kids are SO SO adorable with their haircuts!!!!

24 Angela @ Happy Fit Mama March 15, 2013 at 8:31 pm

It’s crazy the connections that form through blogs. I feel like I’ve “met” some of the most genuine, caring people through my own and ones that I love. The crazy thing is that we may never meet in real life but I still consider them good friends. Such a great community to be a part of!

25 Jess @ Blonde Ponytail March 15, 2013 at 11:03 pm

Thanks so much Tina! If my kids could be half as cute as yours, I’d a happy camper! What dolls!! And, I’m so thankful for the connections through blogging and that I could FINALLY meet you last October!! :)

26 Michelle March 15, 2013 at 11:06 pm

M & B are getting so big!! I love their smiles.

Best part about blogging? Meeting people like you!!!

Boo on the restaurant – but hey, at least you got to hang out with Lee :)

(PS – I do remember myself saying I had no desire for a 3rd at one point. I don’t know where this desire came from – lol).

27 tinareale March 18, 2013 at 7:35 am

Well, we’d have to do a special procedure if a sudden urge for a 3rd hit so I think we’re officially done. Haha! Although sometimes I do think “awwww, baby!”"”
