Morning, friends! It’s Wednesday and around the blog world that often means What I Ate Wednesday hosted by the beautiful (and now pregnant!), Jenn.

I don’t hop on the bandwagon often since my eats are usually fairly repetitive from week to week, but some weeks I have some exceptionally good meals to share. Then, I’m all game. Which brings us to today.
This past weekend, the family and I spent a day in Chattanooga, Tennessee for some quality fun time. I will share all the shenanigans with you tomorrow, but let’s talk food today.
We arrived in Chattanooga right around lunch time and had plans for a picnic lunch. We have a little tradition with our picnics – they always entail Subway sandwiches and chips. It’s a good option for something simple and the kids get excited about it.
He looks like he likes it, no?
After picking up our subs, we headed to a park by the Tennessee River to enjoy our lunch.
Peter and I shared our standard favorite – a turkey and ham on honey oat bread with pepper jack cheese, spicy mustard, spinach, onion, tomato, pickles, olives, and jalapenos. Yum!
Alongside our sandwiches, we needed our chips and had a giant surprise in how much we loved some new to us chips – Green Giant Veggie Chips.
Through Clever Girl Collective, I received these new veggie chips from Green Giant in their #AGiantSurprise campaign. It was pretty hard to save these babies for our picnic. I just knew they would be a hit.
And they were! So, not such a giant surprise that Multigrain Sweet Potato and Sea Salt chips or Zesty Cheddar Roasted Veggie Tortilla chips would go over well around here.
Now, these chips are still chips. Not a health food at all, but for a chip craving (or picnic lunch tradition) I really enjoyed these. The Zesty Cheddar ones tasted just like Doritos and the Sweet Potato ones had a great crunch with a subtle sweet potato flavor. Those were my favorites.
Added bonus? They are made with real veggies, have a good amount of whole grain included (17 grams in the Zesty Cheddar), and less fat than traditional chips (40% less in the Sweet Potato).
To learn more about Green Giant Veggie Chips and find a coupon visit the Green Giant Facebook Page. Or check out videos of fun and surprising talents for their #AGiantSurprise campaign on YouTube. Sadly, I do not have a surprising talent to enter.
Now onto dinner! For dinner on Saturday night, we went our go-to route of finding a place to eat – Yelp. We had three requirements for our options:
- within walking distance of where we were already parked for the day
- kid friendly
- beer
Okay, that last one was just me. But it still was on the list of requirements. Big River Grille fit the bill.
We made it just before a big rush (thankfully!) so were seated promptly outdoors to enjoy the gorgeous spring like weather and beautiful downtown Chattanooga area.
And you know what I immediately requested.
Beer me. I went with the Sweet Magnolia – a brown ale with chocolate malts and a spicy, floral undertone. Also know as, delicious.
For the main attraction, neither Peter nor I could decide between a couple of items so we mixed and matched. I ordered the fish & chips, then gave Peter half in exchange for half his burger.
Nothing spectacular, but it went down just fine. I was hungry after not eating since lunch much earlier! So hungry, in fact, I easily ate a good portion of my dinner and then still managed to down all of this bad boy when we hit up frozen yogurt afterwards.
My eyes were bigger than my stomach, but my stomach still rose to the occasion. Well, what do you know? I guess I DO have a secret talent. Eating large amounts of frozen yogurt. Counts for something, right? I think some of you out there will agree with me.
So, there you have it! My Chattanooga eats!
Do you have a secret talent? You know, a real one. Not like my froyo eating talent. Are you a chips fan? Any time you simply crave chips? Picnics for sure for me!

What a fun family trip! Those chips sound great!
so so so YUMMY and cute. YUTE!!
ohh love me some veggie chips, sounds good!! David and I usually split meals and I love that, but even better when he orders something different and I get to have a few bites without committing to it myself!
Agreed! Sometimes I want to TRY something but not really feeling it for my full meal. Glad I have a man who likes to share.
I have a HUGE weakness for chips so these sounds great!
I had Subway, frozen yogurt and beer this past weekend too. Great minds think alike!
Perhaps the next time we hang out should be a trifecta repeat but together.
Nice! Jeff is from in and around Chattanooga and we always end up at Big River when we’re visiting.
Your kids are SUCH cuties. You lucky duck.
I crave chips pretty much on a daily basis, so veggie chips are always a really nice option. I’m just a sucker for salty and crunch, but I don’t much like pretzels. So nuts and chips give me my fix!
I love chips and fro yo! Don’t think I have any secret talents sadly.
Looks like such a fun day! I love picnics. And frozen yogurt… mmmm!
You guys are the cutest family EVER, just FYI!
I can eat froyo forever and never get full, seriously have a second stomach for it
Happy Wednesday love!
I love Chattanooga! We used to go to Big River all the time in college for dinner/drinks. It’s so beautiful up there this time of year, I’m glad you guys enjoyed a day trip
I can’t believe how big your little guy is getting! Sounds like a fun (and tasty!) family day!
Oh what fun!!!
Love the froyo…mmmm Mmm!
i don’t eat chips all that often just because they’re not super nutritional, but i’ll have to at least TRY these!
whenever I hear Chattanooga I think of Teen Mom. Fail? I think so. Sounds like a lovely place though!
I had no clue Teen Mom was related to Chattanooga at all. Definitely more to it than that, though. haha!
Ahhh, I absolutely love the Big River Grille!!! Their chicken artichoke cashew salad is to die for and let’s not bring up their pizza! I tried to get my husband to stop last Sunday on our way back from Gatlinburg. He was right though, we had endulged in enough food over the weekend in Gatlinburg and all that hiking we did would still not make it right. Oh well, maybe next time.
Ohhhh….you’re making my mouth water. They had SO many good things on the menu! And I love Gatlinburg. haven’t been in a long time. Perhaps a future family mini-trip?
You guys are so cute with your sharing!!
My husband HATES sharing any type of food with me. Always wants me to get my own. haha
I will say this. We can share food…but NOT dessert. We will fight over sweets. Haha!
Those chips look really good! I’m gonna have to look for them next time I grocery shop. And my secret talent is always finishing my sushi meals, no matter how full I am…I always have more room for sushi.
So cute how B looks just like your husband and little M is YOUR clone!
I am hungry at lunchtime right now and seeing these pics makes me hungrier! Sounds like a fun weekend getaway!
Oh I just love picnics! Those chips sound so good, I’ve never tried nor seen them before! I’ll definitely have to have a look out for those!
I love fro yo and could always find room to squeeze it in as well! ha
What a fun weekend
I’ve never heard of those Green Giant chips.
A burger and a beer on the weekend is a necessity for me.
Love these eats
Haha my stomach often rises to the occasion too
