Some Thoughts On Blogging & Weekly Wrap-Up

by tinareale on July 31, 2013

You may have noticed from some recent posts that I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. And the reflection has continued. You see, lately I had this feeling that blogging wasn’t doing much for me anymore. I considered stepping away, but knew I needed to really think about a decision of that nature.

I talked with some wonderful friends, one of which who recently stopped blogging altogether (my pal, Jess) and another of which who has taken an extended break for the month of July to reflect and reconnect with life (Lindsay). Then, I allowed my thoughts to tumble around in quite the whirlwind in my head to figure out what exactly fits me. Like I’ve said recently, I want my true passions to show in how I spend my time. I want to live with JOY and live life FULLY above all else. So how does this blog fit into that?

I took a deeper look into those passions I listed out. What fulfills me? I get great pleasure out of creating new workouts…and finding support in the community. Which is probably why I never once considered giving up my involvement with Best Body Bootcamp – where I get to create fun and flexible workouts for an amazing community of inspirational women who encourage each other nonstop.

So after determining what I truly enjoy, I recognized what I want to give to this blog – weekly workouts in Move It Monday, the community with Fit Friends, and a smattering of life as I know it on other occasions. It will be less frequent, less deep, less pressure…less.

It may be slightly different than before. Some may not like just getting weekly workouts, random life happenings, and a guest feature…but some may want exactly that. And I want exactly that. Light. To the point. Fun. Fitness. Friends. Workouts. Community. Life. It’s good to self assess when things start feeling a little off. Because I believe that discovering less here will help me have more out there. Where it counts.

And to kick off some of that goodness, here are some recent scenes from life as I know it. I’ll deep the details brief since I’ve already rambled enough…

My gorgeous gal about to head to dance camp this past week. She has become dead set that she loves dance and it shows. She comes home glowing every time. May not have been what I had in mind for an activity for her, but if she loves it then I do too.

My favorite snack as of late. Cherries are always a must when in season. And coconut Chobani? Oh, it is good. I’ve been buying one of the 4 pack containers at Kroger every week.

My best friend moved this past weekend. My form of help was watching her two kids for the day. We had a blast – including some “hair shop fun”. Although you should have seen what they did to MY hair. Ha!

These are still a big part of my life. Like you needed a reminder.

Running, running, running! But having fun with it and no pressure.

My favorite part of the day is a little work with some coffee and a quiet house before everyone is up. The perfect way to start the day. Now, I hope you have a good one!

If you’re a blogger, do you ever get the urge to stop? What keeps you going and how do you make it fit for you?

What is your favorite part of the day?

I sometimes feel like I’m going to run out of things to say! I’ve only been blogging for about a year so I don’t think I’ve reached the point of needing an extended break, but I’m sure it will come sometime. I’ve seen a few of my favorite bloggers take a few weeks off to recharge and when they come back their energy is so refreshing!

Oh girl – must be something in the air. I’ve been struggling with it myself. I love blogging. Love the connections, but I don’t love the fact that I feel too connected – but not connected to reality. I’ve started blogging so much less frequently because life is just too short. So I blog when I have something new to share. I will probably be transforming my blog to more of a business venture as well with online training. It’s like a catch 22 isn’t it?

Oh how I needed this post. I have been thinking about stopping, I just feel like some days its a struggle to come up with content to write about. I am hoping my writing mojo comes back but it has been gone for a few weeks now. On an unrelated blogging note, I loveeee your new kitchen!

Every once in a while I feel like I’m forcing every blog post. To me, that’s not worth it. I had to revisit how often I blog and I’m finding the more flexible schedule to be a better fit. I no longer feel the pressure to post EVERYDAY, instead I post when I can, which is usually 3-4x a week. Good for you for recognizing that you need to focus on what makes you happy. It’s your blog, right? Do what you love!

I’m happy you decided to not quit completely…your blog is one of my favorites and has helped me in my life A LOT! Nevertheless, your own happiness is the most important thing :) Thanks for everything, Tina!

Aw, thanks! I do love connecting and the community of it. I guess I just feel like I don’t have much to say anymore besides sharing life and workouts. Which is fine by me. :)

All summer I’ve been feeling an urge to stop, but then I want to share something from my life and I just can’t. I’m not sure what blogging will look like once the girls are born, but I know it will be different – and it might just be more “life”, which people can either take or leave I suppose. I would miss hearing from you every day if you stopped completely though! Oh, and you need to kick my butt back into shape pretty darn soon.

You know you will have a BBB spot waiting for you when you’re ready. ;)

You have to do what works best for YOU! Sounds like you’ve found that. :) I go in phases with blogging, and I just try to go with it. If I need a break, I take one. If I feel like blogging more, I do it. I used to put wayyy too much thought into it, but now I just try to go with the flow.

My favorite part of the day is definitely early morning! My coffee + peace and quiet is so lovely!

10 Kim July 31, 2013 at 10:35 am

I’m glad that you are going to do what works for you!!! I think it can be easy to lose focus when blogging and then end up with way more pressure on yourself. Hopefully, your new plan will help you release a lot of that extra pressure!!!

11 Sky @ The Blonde In Black July 31, 2013 at 11:11 am

I’ve been blogging for a little over 7 months so I’m just trying to figure out my blogging niche or groove. And my favorite part of the day has to be morning because of breakfast, coffee, morning news, and some Jesus time.

As long as you are doing what’s best for you and your family that’s all that matters. I always enjoy your blog posts even you dont post as much and Instagram pictures. I loved best body boot camp and can hopefully sign up for the next one! :)

I felt as though I went through a phase where I was blogging about deeper perspectives on a fairly regular basis. Then I got pregnant, lost my focus, and then vacations…and then the dreaded “m” word. The disconnect was great. Refreshing. Cleansing even? I’ve been trying to think about how to make my blog more ME and less “conformed” if that makes sense. I’ve seen so much diet-to-go or diet bet or supplement that on healthy living blogs, even ones I really loved for a while, and felt turned off from blogging for a while. I’m not down with so many health & fitness blogs/professionals turning to promoting the diet industry for the sake of traffic/exposure. The blogs I love most are blogs like yours…real, insightful, disconnected when necessary. Life. Joy. I feel it in blogs like yours…and for lack of better phrases, “doing you” is exactly what keeps people coming back.

Completely. Agree!

14 Melissa @ Live, Love, & Run July 31, 2013 at 11:15 am

PS: Beautiful home, by the way. <3 (And of course beautiful M and beautiful you.)

15 Sarah July 31, 2013 at 11:28 am

sounds like you’ve made a good balanced decision! i love your blog and would be sad if you quit, but i’d understand too.

16 Kalee July 31, 2013 at 11:37 am

I’m glad you found a good mix that works for you!! :) I can definitely relate — sometimes I am just on it writing, writing, writing and others I’m just a blank.lol! I started doing a calendar which I think will help me.

17 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table July 31, 2013 at 12:10 pm

“if she loves it then I do too.” <— That made me grin. You are such a great mom. :)

I love blogging, but I want to take breaks at times. Or what I'd really like to be get paid to do it full time. Blogging plus a full-time job is a lot!

18 Katie @ KatieEnPursuit July 31, 2013 at 1:18 pm

Great post Tina & I took a declared “hiatus” about a month ago. I was getting “stressed” about blogging & thought to myself “how ridiculous”. I’ve come back for a few posts but again, am focussing on it less. You’ll find a good groove :)

19 Amanda @runtothefinish July 31, 2013 at 5:48 pm

Love you so much for sharing your true thoughts on this. I am having a come to…Bloggie…moment myself this week. I need to decide the path and go with it.

20 Tami Grandi July 31, 2013 at 6:15 pm

I do get the urge to take a break- but I realized that with teaching preschoolers I just don’t have enough “adult” words in me to post every day- so, I post when I feel like I have something to say, a recap to share, or when my heart is being tugged in a specific direction. My posts the last couple of weeks have been a lot more personal then I planned but they were exactly what my heart needed to share.

21 purelytwins July 31, 2013 at 8:05 pm

we think we all have had those moments where we wanted to stop blogging. but we too like to share and connect with others and that is why we keep doing it :)

22 sweetmaddy July 31, 2013 at 8:06 pm

I like the three aspects you decided to keep – those were my favorites! Do you girlfriend!

23 Michelle July 31, 2013 at 9:26 pm

I’m right there with you! I love blogging because I love to write (it’s so cathartic!), but I never want it to feel like something I HAVE to do. After having Evan I’ve felt like I had to write… but I never had anything to say (except “I’m tired”, which I pretty much say all the time anyway!) and I quickly learned that if you have nothing to write… you shouldn’t. There is an ebb and flow to everything and you really have to find what works for you. Glad you are still blogging though – I would miss you too much otherwise!

24 Angela @ Happy Fit Mama July 31, 2013 at 9:58 pm

I’ve had my moments. It seems to go in spurts. If I did stop blogging I would definitely miss the community. Such support and love from strangers who are friends. It’s quite a unique niche that you really only understand if you’re a part of it.

25 lindsay August 1, 2013 at 7:04 am

i think the best thing we can do is stop and evaluate from time to time. Like you said, what are our priorities? YOu can do less and still contribute so much, which is exactly where you are. I think God has us in seasons, we just need to learn to embrace them. Right now i am not doing healthy bites. I love doing it but needed to refocus. Blogging, yes, i love connecting but 3x a week is plenty for me. Love you woman!

26 Laura @ Mommy Run Fast August 1, 2013 at 9:50 am

I always appreciate your honesty! And I’ve never been able to post daily- it stresses me out to feel like I have to, but I also do best on a schedule so I’ve been consistently M/W/F and one weekend post, which works well for me. Glad you’re finding your balance. And your dancing daughter is adorable!!

27 Heather @ Better With Veggies August 1, 2013 at 1:17 pm

I’m so glad you’re stepping back from the pressure & finding what works for you. When I felt like this last November, it made a huge difference to admit that I wasn’t going to blog as much. Some weeks it’s more than others – but the pressure I placed on myself has been removed! Balance is KEY and been a big focus for me this year. :)

28 Tara August 1, 2013 at 3:12 pm

Funny, I was just thinking this morning, as I was getting ready for work and so tired I didnt even want to shower… (I did, by the way)…I wondered how each day all you bloggers find the desire to write a post. or 3!
I can only imagine the time it takes to get it written out, take/load the pictures…etc.
I am not a blogger, but I can totally understand you not wanting to blog every day, or as much as you may have when you first started. I can imagine it gets stale?

I love reading all your posts, lots of variety, thought provoking, good workouts, healthy info and laughs. And those cutie pies of yours!

29 Coco August 1, 2013 at 8:56 pm

The more I blog, the more I appreciate how much work blogging is! I love all of your posts and will look forward to whatever you want to share!

30 Brittany @ Delights and Delectables August 2, 2013 at 11:26 am

Oh I would miss you if you left us! However, I do know the feeling. I have been juggling major life decisions and changes lately, and I’ve been thinking a break would do me some good.

31 jobo August 2, 2013 at 11:45 am

I have been struggling with the same thing lately. Again. I love your approach and think it will be a good happy medium for you! I love to read your thoughts and a-ha moments, and just catch up with you! but I too have had less time and just have felt more intrinsic lately. And perhaps that is just ok!

32 Kimberly {Manifest Yourself} August 2, 2013 at 7:01 pm

I feel that when you are doing something creative, like blogging, occasionally you need to reassess what you are writing about, get inspiration, take breaks, and change your strategy in order to stay fresh. Personally, I break on most holidays and a week or two throughout the year. I need that. Sometimes I think blogging is harder than my full time job! My opinion is that good bloggers blog about what they are passionate about AND that can change at any time. Do whatever is best for you, girlie.
