***Fall session of Best Body Bootcamp begins in TWO WEEKS! Don’t forget to register!**
As you probably have heard me mention already, my birthday was last Friday. And even though it’s already been about a week since all the birthday fun, I still must recap it all. My biggest request for any birthday is to feel spoiled for a day. It doesn’t have to be anything big and fancy, I just want to feel taken care of for a day instead of being the one constantly giving, giving, giving to two of the cutest, but also fairly unappreciative, wee ones day after day after day. That’s motherhood, though, huh? I love my kids, but being a mom is draining and hard work for 24/7 with little “thank you”s and no break. So, that’s what I ask for two times a year – Mother’s Day and my birthday. A break. My birthday was more than expected this year. A full few days of fun, relaxation, and celebration. I felt incredibly loved!
Things all kicked off last week on Thursday, when Peter, the kids, and I met up with my mom, sister, and her husband for a pre-birthday dinner.
We went to a restaurant I hadn’t been to in a long time, but used to be one of my very favorites – Cheeky.
C’mon. You know a celebratory beer had to happen. Along with a three taco plate featuring my favorites off their menu – one crab cake taco, one fish taco, and one sweet chili taco.
All tasted much better than they look. It made for the perfect evening with some of my favorite people.
I kicked off my actual birthday with a killer morning workout with Peter. Then, since it was Friday and he was working from home, he allowed me more of a break by helping out with the kids. I did have a few errands for the day – car registration renewal and an eye doctor appointment (to switch to daily lenses that have been fabulous) – but we still snuck in a family lunch together. One of the sushi and Chinese restaurants by us has killer lunch specials. I went with a California and spicy tuna roll combo along with a ginger salad that totally hit the spot.
Friday night I had to host the women’s Bible study group I help lead. I love this group of women, so it was a great end to the night. They even came bearing little gifts for me, which was so sweet. They know me well. Starbucks gift card, lavender bath scrub, pumpkin smells, and brownies.
The big celebration fun all came on Saturday. Most people would probably choose to start the day sleeping in and relaxing. I did things a bit backwards. I woke up a bit earlier than normal to drive into Atlanta to sweat my booty off and have it kicked at the same time in a hot power yoga class.
Red Hot Yoga in Atlanta recently ran a Groupon deal. It’s about ten minutes more of a drive than my current studio, but I wanted to give it a shot for such a good price. It ended up being the best yoga class I have ever taken. Ever. It was worth the extra drive and I couldn’t think of a way I would have rather started my birthday celebration day.
From there, I came home and showered to be ready for Peter’s surprise for me. I had no idea where he was taking me, but it ended up being just what I needed. A little spa time!
He hooked me up with a massage, mani/pedi combo, and then I tacked on some much needed eyebrow waxing. I left three hours later in a relaxed, pampered high. Which only turned into an even higher high when this happened.
I always promised myself I wouldn’t cave to lululemon. Then, I commented on some cute capris a girl in yoga had the other day. For a birthday surprise, Peter decided to find a store to take me to…and I got sucked in. Big time. I picked out a few tanks perfect for yoga and a three reversible pairs of Wunder Under crops that were on sale. I justify that it was like getting 6 pairs of capris for 2/3 the normal price of 3 pairs. That makes sense, right? Right. And sorry no pictures…I forgot and now don’t have time. I’m sure I’ll have pictures on Instagram rocking the new gear, though.
The birthday party ended with some dinner.
Another beer (duh) and sharing a few different plates at The Cheesecake Factory. We split the farro Greek salad, tex mex eggrolls, and a flatbread with pear, blue cheese, pecans, and arugala. That filled us up, so we grabbed some cheesecake to go to have at home later. No surprise that that ended up getting eaten before I remembered any pictures. Man, I’m leaving out all the good stuff in this post – lululemon and cheesecake. I guess I had more important things on my mind. It was a great couple of days!
Your Turn – Have you caved to lululemon? Have a favorite item? I loved the Wunder Under crops and No Limits tank! What is one of your favorite ways to celebrate a birthday? Any fellow moms have the same main request as I do – feeling spoiled for a change? C’mon. I know you’re out there with me!
