I spent the early hours of this morning much like most mornings. I walked down the stairs, the house still dark and quiet, and made my way over to the chaise lounge we have. I clicked on the reading light and started to pray. I prayed for the families who will always feel heartache on the anniversary of September 11th. I prayed for anyone that will hurt today for any reason. And I sat and thanked God for His immense blessings in my life. In those prayers, I settled on the peace and joy I have truly felt recently. My goal for this year was to live in joy – to scale back some self-imposed pressures and try to just live life. It’s too short. I’m beginning to feel like I’m coming around to that and not getting in my own way as much.
I have plenty of big blessings to thank God for sharing with me – from the most supportive husband I could imagine to two precious children I get to call my own. To friends I love, work I love, a new community and house I love, and a church I love. But I also like to reflect on even the smallest of things that add to my joy. So for today’s “Life Lately”, I wanted to touch on those small things – some recent “enjoyments” if you will.
Over the weekend I got to spend a late morning brunch with my friend, Laura, and our respective crews of husband and children. Please excuse my hot mess look, as I had literally just come from hot yoga Saturday morning.
We went to this spot called BB’s Bagels close to both of us. It’s a New York style bagel shop in on of those old diner looking metal trailers. It was a cramped spot on a Saturday morning, but worth the wait. I’m not even a bagel person but the French Toast bagel with Cinnamon Walnut cream cheese was enough to make my mouth water. Other things making my mouth water…
This Mix My Own granola blend I got to create. From the site:
MixMyOwn.com is an American-based company developed to help customers create a customized healthy breakfast granola/muesli mix by providing a variety of nearly 100nutritious, all-natural, organic, unprocessed, no sugar, no preservatives, and Non-GMOingredients.
I was offered the chance to create my own mix thanks to the gracious folks behind Mix My Own. After taking a look at the never ending options, I had to give it a shot. I created a mix with coconut granola, multigrain flakes, dried papaya, dried pineapple, dried coconut, macadamia nuts, and mini marshmallows just for fun. I’ve been doing my best to make it last, knowing I will need some more when its gone. Think of that mix with coconut yogurt? You would get addicted too.
In other news…I’ve still really been enjoying yoga and since taking classes at a new studio I feel like I have learned so much. I’ve even finally managed to get myself up in a headstand. Not the prettiest one out there, but I’m still stoked!
Also stoked for this season to be back…
Forget the #PSL and hand me some pumpkin or fall seasonal beer! Especially when enjoyed while watching this happen…
Goooooo Dawgs! And we’ll just pretend the first week didn’t happen…
Probably the greatest joy in the past week or two has been this past Sunday when I had to visit the North Point Ministries offices. It was a pretty big deal.
I’m getting baptized on September 29th. My church home, North Point Community Church, really does up baptisms big. Their entire mission is about leading people to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. They are a church all about reaching people – a place anyone is welcome and can come no matter where you stand with your beliefs, we’re just happy you’re there. And even if you’re watching online. Plus, Andy Stanley’s messages are so life applicable no matter who you are and just. so. GOOD.
We’re also a place that likes to party (as evidenced by the concert style worship every week) and we celebrate big time when it comes to baptisms (some people even blow bull horns and have signs). North Point believes it’s a big deal when someone decides to publicly profess what Jesus Christ has done in his or her life. And they believe those stories need to be shared and heard because you never know who God intends to hear them.
I finally realized God does love me and that I needed Him just under six years ago and it hands down changed my life. Although, I never thought I needed to be baptized until seeing North Point’s thoughts about it – the public profession, the testimony to others, etc. So I made myself get past the anxiety of my face on their huge screens sharing my story. I filmed my testimony this weekend (nerve-wrecking moment right there!) and now just feel so much excited anticipation for a few weeks from now. Yep. A pretty big deal to me that certainly brings me so much joy.
Well, that’s all I got for you today. I’m out!
Your Turn: Are you a bagel person? Pumpkin beer or pumpkin coffee? Or what’s something bringing you joy recently?
