This Is Why I Avoid Pinterest

by tinareale on December 16, 2011

As my Facebook pals know, yesterday started a little something like this:

Apparently a jolly little virus wants to play Santa and visit everyone with his little presents. Too bad that he missed the memo that time in the bathroom, holding back your daughter’s hair over a bucket, and changing diaper after diaper does not bring joy. I needed to find some joy.

Which I did thanks to Julie! She posted this video of giving gag gifts to kids from Jimmy Kimel.

Some of the reactions are cute and hilarious…some make you say “WOAH, kid!”. And it all makes me want to pull that stunt on Makenzie. Bad mom? Or fun mom? Whichever it is, it for sure gave me entertainment as I got distracted on the internet looking for funny gifts.

I was directed to the site Taylor Gifts, which Courtney has talked about before, and with good reason! Hilarious stuff! How do you think Makenzie would react if she opened up a farting Santa for her Christmas present??

Who am I kidding? She would love it! But probably not the bacon toothpaste.

While the site did have a lot of fun gag gifts (which I wish I knew about before the White Elephant gift exchange last weekend!), it also has some other more practical and cute stuff too.

I wouldn’t mind having this runner’s coffee mug

…these wall stickers to decorate Makenzie’s room…

…and this nativity scene that reminds me of the one my grandparents used to set up every year.

Or this because it made me laugh out loud.

I am well aware I have a lame sense of humor and even more so when not feeling well. And why is it so easy to get sucked in to the internet? Oh, well. It’s the right thing to do when you need to rest but can’t sleep because lying down makes your head spin. You would have thought I had carted a few of these around with me all day…

If I had known about disposable flasks back in my football tailgating days…it would have been trouble. Ahem.

Okay, okay! I’m done now! Do you now see why I avoid Pinterest? I would get SUCKED IN with NO ESCAPE! Look at how addicted I got to a simple (and fun) gifts website! At least it gives you something to do on a Friday when you can’t bear to work another minute because Christmas is almost here and you’re ready for your time off. Or because you could use some gift ideas (both gag and non-gag). Feel free to return the favor…

What’s the last thing that sucked you in on the internet?

1 Heather (Heather's Dish) December 16, 2011 at 8:05 am

i have to REALLY limit my pinterest time…it’s so dangerous! but twitter convos always get me sucked in :)

2 Lauren @ What Lauren Likes December 16, 2011 at 8:33 am

That video is hilarious! Haha :)

3 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table December 16, 2011 at 8:48 am

I NEED that Santa doll! LOL!

Pineterest is the last thing that sucked me in… it’s so useful though!

4 Heather @ Better With Veggies December 16, 2011 at 8:52 am

Pinterest can be such a time-suck, but I still love it. Twitter seems to pull more of my time than that though – wow I can waste some time there. :)

5 [email protected] December 16, 2011 at 8:54 am

I can’t bear to work another minute and there’s another whole week of it left! :( Thank the lord it’s almost the weekend! I’ve looked on Pinterest… maybe I shouldn’t!

6 Jess December 16, 2011 at 9:26 am

And this is EXACTLY why I refuse to join Pinterest, I KNOW I’ll become addicted!!! PS I hope you feel better my friend! xo

7 Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot December 16, 2011 at 9:46 am

I am seriously thisclose to being sucked into Pinterest. Must.Resist.Pinterest!

8 Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean December 16, 2011 at 9:46 am

9 Dawn December 16, 2011 at 9:51 am

I love the video…lol…classic. I think I just woke the hwole house up by laughing,

10 Rebecca @ Naturally Healthy and Gorgeous December 16, 2011 at 9:52 am

I am addicted to pintrest, I could look at it all day!

11 Katie December 16, 2011 at 9:54 am

Haha! That video. I kind of want to spank that kid in the red striped sweater!

Also, I only let myself get on pinterest once a week…otherwise, it’s all over. :-)

12 Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile December 16, 2011 at 10:47 am

Bacon toothpaste ? Yuck. I love brushing my teeth and do not like bacon so that would be the worst for me! Lol

13 Carol @ Lucky Zucca December 16, 2011 at 11:08 am

That farting Santa is hilarious! I think you should definitely get it. That nativity scene looks just like the one we put up at my parents’ house every year! I hope you get to feeling better soon Tina!

14 Lee December 16, 2011 at 11:09 am

Haha, that one kid looks exactly like Manny from Modern Family.

Pinterest actually isn’t too much of a time suck for me. I basically just use it as a place to store recipes for the most part.

15 tinareale December 17, 2011 at 9:15 am

That’s what I thought too!

16 Kara December 16, 2011 at 11:25 am

I want bacon flavored toothpaste! That would make me excited to brush my teeth in the morning! :)

17 lindsay December 16, 2011 at 11:38 am

so i kinda want to try that toothpaste now, is that wrong? haha. THe mugs are adorable!

18 Lauren @ Oatmeal after Spinning December 16, 2011 at 12:09 pm

Pinterest is blocked at my work, as is Facebook, Youtube, and basically every other time-suck out there. Except blogs- oh man, I get way too sucked into blog reading! :)

19 Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts December 16, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Me too Lauren, me too!! I’m just waiting for the day the block blogs at work. Then I will have to quit. Hee, kidding.

20 tinareale December 17, 2011 at 9:14 am

Or…are you??? ;) hehehe

21 Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts December 16, 2011 at 1:11 pm

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear you are sick. It seems like that stomach bug is making the rounds EVERYWHERE. Eek!

That video cracked me up!! That was perfect for this afternoon because I am feeling exactly like how you said it above – “can’t bear to work another minute because Christmas is almost here and you’re ready for your time off” Amen sista!!! :)

22 Lindsay @ Lindsay's List December 16, 2011 at 1:23 pm

I haven’t bought ONE Christmas gift!!! Freak out time!!

23 [email protected] December 16, 2011 at 1:29 pm

I finally gave into Pinterest but I’m glad I did, it’s come in really handy to sort recipes and craft ideas, but I definitely have to exercise restraint. I don’t spend a lot of time looking at other people’s pins, I mainly just use it to pin the things I want to keep track of and move on. Working so far, check back with me in a couple weeks! ;) Hope you guys feel better soon!

24 Erin @ December 16, 2011 at 1:45 pm

I actually bought a few of those clear flasks for a cruise I’m going on in January. They are called Rum Runners…they are gonna be trouble :) I wish I had them in my college years too!

25 tinareale December 17, 2011 at 9:13 am

Oh, genius way to stash for a cruise! They charge an arm and a leg otherwise.

26 Tiff December 16, 2011 at 1:46 pm

So much good stuff! I keep finding clothes and jewelry I want on Pinterest, and sometimes looking at all the yummy food makes me hungry! I guess I need to shy away from it too.

27 Rosa - Fitness Food Fulfilled December 16, 2011 at 1:52 pm

That video is so funny! I so want to do that to my 4 yr old stepson!

28 Katie @ Peace Love & Oats December 16, 2011 at 2:57 pm

I had a christmas tree like that santa that had bells on it, and when you turned it on it shook and played music! cute for about 15 seconds…

29 Andrea (Run. Learn. Repeat.) December 16, 2011 at 3:41 pm

That video was really funny! Thanks for the entertainment. That farting Santa is hilarious too!

30 Diana December 16, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Oh my gosh, that little girl with the half eaten sandwich was ADORABLE. Some of those kids, though – yeesh! Was I ever like that?! Eek. Definitely gives me pause about what children think Christmas is all about!

Pinterest might be a time-suck…but that doesn’t make me love it any less!

31 Charissa December 16, 2011 at 3:46 pm

Haha, I know what you mean! It’s hard not to though! For me, I’ve just replaced Facebook with Pinterest! Might be good, maybe not! ;)

32 Janet Oberholtzer December 16, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Fun post!
I ran a 5k on Sunday with a friend who was running his first race with a prothesis after losing his leg (below the knee) in a motorcycle accident 18 months ago.
He wore a shirt like your gingerbread “oh, snap” pillow… I love his sense of humor!

33 tinareale December 17, 2011 at 9:12 am

I love his sense of humor too. Have to make light of life and keep it fun. Go him! And you too for supporting him like that. :)

34 chelsey @ clean eating chelsey December 16, 2011 at 8:49 pm

Blah! I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well!

35 Brittany @ LessBritt MoreLife December 16, 2011 at 8:54 pm

Pinning is so fun though! and such good ideas! Hope you’re feeling better my dear! xoxo

36 Ela December 16, 2011 at 9:05 pm

Please get well soon! I hope you feel better and the kids also.

Thanks for sharing the gag gifts–made me chuckle too and I might have to go in search of more. I can think of some prime recipients for bacon toothpaste and farting santas…

37 tinareale December 17, 2011 at 9:10 am

Thanks, Ela! It was pretty low key and we were all feeling better by yesterday afternoon. Perfect timing too for party prep. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

38 [email protected] Style December 16, 2011 at 10:13 pm

PINTEREST! But, I have found so many fun things on there. But, once I log on, it’s a time suck for sure.

39 Corey @ Learning Patience December 17, 2011 at 8:33 pm

OMG…You are so sweet Tina! Thanks so much for featuring my lil ole blog! :-)
I only had time to read 3 blogs tonight…as NYC is SO much fun…and I have to say – you just made my vacation night in NY even better girl! :-)
I hope you feel better soon…and bacon flavored toothpaste?!? wow sounds gross!

xoxo much love from the big apple

40 Liz (Little Bitty Bakes) December 17, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Awww, I hope you guys are feeling better!

I saw that Jimmy Kimmel video the other night – so funny! My favorite was the little girl with the half eaten PB sandwich… “I like when you make real dinners, like hot pockets…”

41 Coco December 18, 2011 at 2:59 pm

I just ordered something from Cafe Press and succumbed to the special offer to add a gingerbread “Oh Snap!” t-shirt to my order for $7. :-)

42 Christine @ Oatmeal in my Bowl December 19, 2011 at 9:08 pm

My husband would probably dig the bacon flavored toothpaste. ;)
