Friday Five 1121

1. This past weekend we spent all day Saturday at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta. While I wouldn’t compare it to the children’s museums we  have been to in Chattanooga and Indianapolis, the kids had great fun. And us adults were pooped after five hours running around that place. Talk about a workout!
2. I’ve been growing more and more fond of Athleta and Lucy gear, especially for yoga/workout crops. I wanted some color instead of just black…so picked up these teal and brown ones from Athleta. I love them! Plus, it’s nice to have a little variety from black.
3. Lately, I have really enjoyed incline walking on the treadmill. It’s easy to do in the morning before the kids wake up and it leaves me with that “runner’s high” feeling without all the aches I get running these days. A big win if you ask me! I’ll have to share one of my favorite incline routines with you soon.
4. I’m back at it! Even though the next full round of Best Body Bootcamp doesn’t begin until January 6th, I am already working on it. I am pretty meticulous about creating the workouts, trying them out, having enough time to film and edit, and giving all the crazy detail I add to the plan. It takes time, but it’s a labor of love. I truly do love what I do!
5. Who likes a little dark chocolate for dessert? This girl! It’s a practically nightly fix. Super dark is what I like best. So satisfying and takes a while to eat so I can fully savor it.

  1. Celebrating The Marathon That Wasn’t via Mommy Run Fast – As someone who has been there with the frustrations of injuries while running, I loved this perspective from Laura.
  2. 5 Top Tips For Stopping Sugar Cravings via Eat Spin Run Repeat – These are some great tips! While I do still have sugar, I have worked to eat a lot less than I used to eat and these are things I used.
  3. School Supplements A Mom’s Homemade Lunch With Ritz Crackers via Momables – This. Makes. Me. So. Incredibly. Mad. Apparently a balanced, homemade lunch wasn’t healthy enough and required some processed crackers (and a $10 fine!) forced on the kid and mom instead. GRRRRRR!
  4. Don’t Feel Sorry via Fitting It All In – Clare reflects on the attitude we have of feeling sorry for someone if they seem to have gained weight. A very personal and touching post that makes you think.
  5. 5 Under Appreciated Exercises You Should Be Doing via Shape – Yes. Yes. And yes! These are all so great to include in your strength training routine.

  1. Okay this one is far from a fun fact. Monday afternoon/evening we had some excitement. Braedon ran right into the corner edge of a stair post at the bottom or our stairs and got a little gash in his cheek. I watched it happen and couldn’t stop it, then immediately freaked out when I saw the blood! Luckily it wasn’t a very big cut, but I could tell it was deep enough to require an Urgent Care visit. Poor kid had to get four stitches in his little cheek. He was a trooper though and didn’t fuss one bit after the initial couple minutes of crying right after it happened. Man. He is stronger than I am at only two!’
  2. I am so ready for the holiday season. Bring on Thanksgiving and then Christmas! It’s the most wonderful time of the year. After Christmas, though? Just bring back summer.
  3. This weekend, the kids and I will be putting together Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. We do it every year as a way for them to learn to give back. They have so much fun and it melts my heart to hear them talk about helping other kids have toys with such excitement.
  4. I have been notoriously bad at remembering to take things out of the freezer to defrost lately. It just hit me I forgot to take the meat out to defrost for the crock pot chili I planned on making. Crap.
  5. If I’m running short on time in the morning, I will choose not to shower after my workout and just blow dry the sweat out of my hair and wipe down with a few baby wipes. I know that’s gross. But it happens.

Wow on the post about the child’s lunch. Awesome post about gaining weight. I’m going to start your holiday bootcamp next week and will mark my calendar for Jan 6!

And poor little Braedon. Glad he handled it like a champ1

I’ve totally been guilty of throwing frozen meat in the crockpot. Add enough seasoning and it won’t matter ;)
I’m so glad B is ok! What a tough little man :)

Tina! I do my own version of #5…i’ll take a quick shower w/my sweaty, post-work-out hair piled on top of my head, then pull back in a high or low side pony. no shame. i may have even seen clients rocking that look. (i’m a therapist). whoops. no shame. showering is so time consuming. i love your idea though..never thought of doing that! :)

I’m still shocked about the mom being fined and her child given ritz crackers. So messed up!

9 Danica @ It's Progression November 22, 2013 at 8:39 pm

Oh my gosh…I just read about that school lunch? FURIOUS!! so many things wrong with that!

10 Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona November 23, 2013 at 9:48 am

I did Operation Christmas Child for years. As a teen I thought it was fun to be able to personalize every box.

11 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat November 23, 2013 at 9:53 am

Thanks for the link love Tina! I’m so sorry to hear about your little guy’s injury. That does not sound like fun! Love that pin for the forearm balance/yoga pose – I really want to work on that too, as well as doing a headstand. I’m nowhere near it just now but I think I’ll make it a goal for 2014. Have a great weekend!

12 Dominique @ That's What Domi Said November 23, 2013 at 5:30 pm

Oh no, so sorry to hear lil B. got a battle wound! Glad to hear he took it like a champ, though. :)
And I’m with you on the chocolate! This past week I’ve been working on a Lindt bar of 90% dark…it’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it.
