Friday Five 1-3

  1. On New Year’s Day, the family & I hung out with our best friends at Dave & Buster’s. I wasn’t sure if the kids would be old enough to really enjoy it, but I was wrong. They (and we!) had an absolute blast. I think the kiddos had a bit of beginner’s luck, too. They scored 2000+ tickets in two hours! Can you tell Braedon was excited about that? Haha!
  2. I decided to participate in a 30 Day Yoga Challenge on Instagram. It looks like fun. Yoga is my main workout these days (teacher training weekends kick up again next week), so why the heck not?
  3. I love kids’ imaginations. Makenzie & Braedon decided it needed to be summer, so they made the beach in our foyer out of a blue and cream blanket. Ah, if only it were the real beach.
  4. Nothing like a workout high! A decade after beginning to workout and the endorphin rush from a good workout still hasn’t gotten old.
  5. My New Year’s Eve = early bedtime with a book. How much of a party animal am I? Ha! We didn’t have plans and it sounded good to me to curl up with a book. So, that’s what I did.

FIVE FUN FACTS

  1. Since our family got struck with the flu the week of Peter’s birthday, we’re celebrating a belated birthday for him this weekend. I’m so thankful we have family close by to help watch the kids.
  2. In fact, the kids are already at Nana’s and Papa’s. They weren’t supposed to go until today…but begged to go an extra day yesterday. I guess the past few weeks out of preschool they have gotten sick of me? But I miss my little stinkers!
  3. You know what is really good for dinner? Quiche. Why have I waited so many years to make one of those things? So easy and really delicious.
  4. I have zero desire for formal cardio anymore. Workouts as of late are multiple yoga classes per week and 2-3 strength sessions. The power yoga and my circuit strength workouts, which often include cardio drills in them, get my heart rate up plenty. Probably why the treadmill or elliptical have no appeal.

Welcome to IG Yoga Challenges! I love ‘em. Checking out the 20 ways to keep toddlers entertained. We are snowed in for the second day in a row. Would love to get outside to play but 1 degree with crazy windchills are just too much for mama. Although I’m sure the kids wouldn’t have any problems with it!

You could never get me outside in temperatures even near that cold. I would be playing indoors too! Hope you find some ideas that work for you.

I feel the same way about workouts- after who knows how many years, the endorphin high never gets old! Love the happy vs comfortable quote, too.

My new years eve was super laid back. I stayed in (by myself), watched a movie, worked on my 2014 dream board, read and enjoyed a glass of wine. I wouldn’t have changed it for anything!

workout of choice lately is swimming and walking on the treadmill! though the treadmill is often more appealing in these frigid temps as itz in our basement! :)

Thanks for the shoutout! I took a couple weeks off running to try to give a nagging injury the chance to heal, but January 1 was my first day back and it definitely gave the best workout high I’ve had in a long time. Nothing like an invigorating two miler through a snow storm to get your heart pumpin’! Haha. Given that same snow storm, I spent my NYE in with a friend. Very low key, but much better than traipsing around in fancy clothes while it’s like 15 degrees outside…plus much cheaper!

Hi Tina, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. I always feel more upbeat and inspired after reading it! I have a few go to blogs and now that I’ve discovered yours, it’s on my list of favorites! I also wanted to ask you if you could recommend a good yoga studio in the Cumming area? I would really like to get started somewhere and the YMCA doesn’t offer much.

Thanks so much for your kind words. I really appreciate them. I try very hard to be a place people can come for fun workouts, useful info, positive thoughts, or just some fun.

For yoga, I have found that nothing really compared to Red Hot Yoga at Piedmont where I now drive. It is a hike but since moving, it’s not too bad because I can go right down the highway. Definitely a drive, though, so I’m happy to recommend some more local places I’ve tried that I like. My friend, Rebecca, just started a new studio in downtown Cumming called Yoga Selah. She is a GREAT instructor and I’ve loved any class with her. Johns Creek Yoga (which has a beginner series starting up this weekend I think with 4 classes for a reasonable cost) and Breathe Yoga (off Atlanta Highway) are two others that are good choices for yoga in the area. I actually got started taking classes at the Cumming Bodyplex. The instructor Kelly was very good….it’s a flow style class but doesn’t get into as many variations of poses so great for getting started, but if you ever wanted to deepen your practice you may find a need to branch out (what happened for me).

Hope this helps. I’ve obviously tried pretty much ALL of the studios in the area. Haha!

Thank you so much!! This points in me in the right direction for getting started! It gets a little overwhelming searching online and not knowing who is good! I’m a runner who is in need of some balance:) Thanks again!! And it is so nice to find a refreshing and positive blog :)

ohmygosh quiche! I haven’t had quiche in ages. Now I’m craving some. Hmmmm, maybe for dinner! Aren’t our kids’ imaginations incredible? I love what they come up with and that’s a pretty clever way to make a beach! But I need a real beach too!

Curling up in your PJsm with a good book is always a good idea. I need to get started on a few books!

The ‘I hate you’ story is wonderful! It’s hilarious, of course, but it also really beautifully paints an image about how parents and children can maintain love even in unloving moments. Thanks for sharing this.
