Fun Fact Friday

by tinareale on December 23, 2011

I’m going to the doctor this morning for a follow up appointment for blood work and to have her help me with my itching. I foresee a scabies diagnosis….which freaks me the heck out. Ick. Ick. Ick. And not really the way to kick off fun fact Friday, huh?

How about this instead? A couple nights ago Peter, the kids, and I headed out for a new Christmas tradition.

IMGP2979-1IMGP2981-1

A community of houses in our area joined forces to put together a light show for people to drive through for free.

IMGP2984-1

The lights even dance to music broadcast for the neighborhood. It’s getting to watch tacky displays like this live. So much better than the $70/car visit to Lake Lanier Nights of Lights.

Tomorrow I will go to spin class in the morning, then come home and have a baking extravaganza. Instead of giving traditional grifts to family this year, we’re giving some treats with a card letting our loved ones know of a donation in their names to our church’s From Hunger To Hope mission to help feed starving children. Part of that baking will include more of these.

Braedon is walking now. Well, walking while holding onto my finger. Either way, this can’t be happening.

I’m watching Criminal Minds as I type this. This show has sucked me in. Although, I wasn’t a fan of the episode with the man finding his victims through blogging and social media. A bit unnerving.

Last night I made two dinners to bring to two friends that recently had babies. Prepping two meals is my max because I had to pit stop at Subway on the way home. It was a good decision.

IMGP2985-1

Just like adding a bunch of jalapenos was a good decision. Why haven’t I always done this?

My wish for Christmas for each of you:

merry christmas

For all celebrating, have a wonderful Christmas! See you next week!

Good luck at your appt today! And that is the cutest pic of B ever, he looks like he’s about to cry, but his face is priceless! Love your traditions and your cookie making! Off to do the same today :)

I hope the doctor has good news for you!

I love Subway so much, but it’s mostly because of their cookies. :)

8 tinareale December 23, 2011 at 11:54 am

They do have dang good cookies! We always fill out the survey with the receipt bec it gives a free cookie coupon code for your next visit. I forgot this time though! Bummer because I was eyeing the raspberry cheesecake one.

That saying reminds me of a wedding invitation we received earlier this year to ask for “our presents on this special day”. No joke, it really went to print like that.
Merry Christmas!

10 tinareale December 23, 2011 at 11:55 am

Haha! That’s a fail on that wedding card. hahaha!

11 Hilary December 23, 2011 at 9:12 am

Precious pictures of the kiddos! I love the gift idea to donate to charity in lieu of gifts – so much closer to the real meaning of Christmas. Hope you get to feeling better!

You know you’re getting old when you see big light displays and thing “their electrical bill is going to be so high!” LOL!

17 Leah @ Why Deprive? December 23, 2011 at 11:11 am

Oh my goodness Tina, those may be the cutest pictures of your children ever! Freaking adorable.

Criminal Minds is so addicting. I’m pretty much terrified to leave my house now, but I can’t stop watching it. :)

I cannot believe the Lake Lanier light show is that expensive. My mom is coming down today and I thought about taking her (we like lights even though we don’t celebrate Christmas) but then when I saw the price I quickly changed my mind!

Have a great Christmas!

19 tinareale December 23, 2011 at 11:56 am

Yea. It’s ridiculous! And really not THAT impressive in my opinion.

20 emilie December 23, 2011 at 11:38 am

Mmm… I can’t buy a sandwich anymore without adding some sort of spice! The flavour is so much more interesting!

I need to drive around and look at lights! It’s such a great part of Christmas!

22 Jamie @ Don't Forget the Cinnamon December 23, 2011 at 11:54 am

I love the idea of giving a donation AND a baked good! That way, the recipient still has something to unwrap, gets a delicious treat, and can feel GREAT about the donation!

23 Paige @ Running Around Normal December 23, 2011 at 12:01 pm

Great idea to bring your friends’ some dinners! My bff just had a baby boy yesterday, and I’m going to see her today. Was wondering what I could bring as a gift…now I know! :)

24 tinareale December 23, 2011 at 12:14 pm

Yes! Meals ready to eat or just pop in the oven are a lifesaver as a new mom. Always the best gift imo.

25 khushboo December 23, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Merry Xmas to you and your family :)

26 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions December 23, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Have you heard of the Advent Conspiracy? What you’re doing for Christmas is pretty much right on board with it, and I really respect you for what you’re doing. The promo video really affected me but I wasn’t sure how to put it into practice without seeming like I was just trying to get out of buying people presents. I mean, obviously Christmas is not about tangible gifts, but when everyone else is getting everyone else “real” presents, it’s hard to not feel bad for getting them real gifts, too. Instead I made sure almost all of my Christmas gifts were fair trade, which, while not the same as donating money to a cause, is at least a step in the right direction. Better than supporting some big box sweatshop corporation at least, I guess. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IN0W3gjnNE

Advent Conspiracy is actually what triggered this new approach to gifts. I love the mentality of it and that our church is doing it this year. :)

What a cute tradition to start! I remember loving to go look at decorated neighborhoods when I was a kid and I love sharing that with my little guy too.

I hope the itching goes away soon. That sounds like a small form of torture!

29 Maryea @ Happy Healthy Mama December 23, 2011 at 2:17 pm

30 Cara December 23, 2011 at 2:27 pm

Aww, love the tradition! My parents used to get us in our PJ’s and drive us around town to look at everyone’s Christmas lights :)

Merry Christmas to you and your family!!

I hope your follow up appointment went well today! That subway sandwich looks delish, I love their sandwiches there and the price is right too- plus it was nice of you to make those meals for the new moms.
