Lessons From The Mat

by tinareale on October 18, 2014

Yoga is for everyone. All levels. Many times we see fancy poses and think they are what yoga is all about. Not true. Yoga is about the journey you make to come home to your true self. To learn and grow.

Both the poses shown above are backbends. Both provide similar physical benefits. And in both poses – it’s more important to understand the pose and allow it to teach you than to look a certain way or to put your body in a certain position. It’s all yoga. It’s all goodness.

Don’t get caught up in what you see others doing. Get caught up in how yoga feels in your body. Live it. Love it. Namaste!

Do you ever get caught up in wanting to do certain poses more than enjoying the yoga?

It’s so easy to get caught up with what other people in the class are doing, but I really try to focus just on my mat.

It’s so freeing to just focus on your own mat. Something I learned in training, definitely!

I agree, it’s so easy to get caught up with what other are doing in class. I just got back from a vinyasa this morning and I just love how there are no mirrors, lights are dimmed so there are no distractions.

As I’ve started to teach, it’s interesting to see how many people try to force their bodies rather than just going with what feels right. Has made me take a much closer look at my own practice and do all I can to emphasize self awareness when I teach. Thankful there aren’t mirrors in the power room where I teach!
