A New Addition To The Family

by tinareale on January 2, 2012

Well, last time you heard from me was a few days ago when I shared my new “theme for 2012”. Did you miss it? I’m dreaming big this year and would love to know your theme word for the year, so please visit and share!

After that, I fell off the face of the Earth a bit because I suddenly felt extremely sick starting Wednesday afternoon. I could barely lift my head. Then, it only got worse on Thursday. I hate cold and flu season. Fortunately, whatever plagued me decided to ease up and focus itself just above the neck by Friday. I had to feel better in order to pack for a special vacation.

We were headed to the beach for a new addition to the family! My cousin got married!

First, let’s back up Friday morning. We rushed around to pack and get ready to take the kids to Peter’s parents’ house. His mom kindly offered to watch the kids so we could go with my family to the wedding. I would have loved to bring them, but the thought of a New Year’s Eve late night wedding with two kids made me very appreciative of my mother-in-law. As always. I lucked out in that department.

We finally hit the road late morning on Friday to drive down to Jacksonville Beach. It turned out that the rehearsal wasn’t including out of town guests as we expected so, after arriving, we visited quickly with my family and then headed out for our own night. I honestly am glad it turned out that way! It had been too long since Peter and I had a date night just the two of us

We kept Friday night simple by finding a restaurant close by that had rave reviews on Yelp.

IMGP3047-1

Mojo Kitchen is a BBQ place with a funky feel. I loved the place! The food was amazing too.

IMGP3050-1

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and a side of jalapeno cornbread. I don’t know why I always order the sandwiches since half the time I just eat the BBQ (slathered in sauce, of course). This place had such tender, flavorful BBQ and I loved that the potato salad had a very vinegar-y base so it wasn’t terribly heavy.  Peter and I savored our dinners and spent a long time talking about all sorts of things. Perfect meal!

Saturday morning kicked off with a 7 mile run on the beach.

IMGP3056-1

I wish I had my camera because it was that gorgeous time of morning with the sun coming up across the ocean. The temperatures hovered in the low 60s and it wasn’t too humid. I ran sans music and thought about all my goals for the upcoming year. Then, I thought about the pain in my foot that came back off and on. Sad smile

Nothing much happened during the day Saturday – just some walks around the area, frozen yogurt action as lunch, and an early pre-wedding dinner since it was a late wedding with no full dinner.

IMGP3059-1

IMGP3061-1

Mmmmmm….

But even that doesn’t hold a candle to Saturday night’s wedding. My cousin looked stunning and the emotion written all over Jessica and Chris’ faces made my heart melt. Weddings always  make me so mushy gushy.

IMGP3076-1

After a touching ceremony, the party got started New Years Eve fashion. My cousin wanted it to be a New Years style party that went through the New Year with lost of dancing, laughing, and celebrating.

I had a GREAT night. My sister, brother, and I were up to our usual shenanigans with Peter and my sister’s boyfriend, Tim. We broke it loose on the dance floor…

IMGP3100-1

as did my G-Pa because the man has got moves and all the ladies loved it…

IMGP3104-1

We nibbled a good amount of hors de oeuvres, including sushi (LOTS of sushi), mini crab cakes, and (the most amazing) mini cupcakes …

IMGP3084-1

IMGP3107-1

…and spent the night laughing away with family.

IMGP3095-1IMGP3096-1

The night ended finally ringing in the New Year with a countdown, party horns, and fireworks on the beach.

IMGP3115-1

It turned into a nice little vacation. Smile

Although, I must say it feels good to be back home now with the kids and in a normal routine. I love traveling, but love my regular day to day life a wee bit more. it helps knowing its only a few months until the next trip, though. I foresee another busy year with travel ahead of me! And I can’t wait!

Did you travel a lot last year? I went to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Daytona Beach, Savannah, and now Jacksonville.

What makes a good wedding for you? Fun reception? Good wedding = the love in the bride and groom’s eyes. A fun reception = having other guests you know to really let loose and laugh with.

I am sorry your foot is bothering you! =( Congratulations to your cousin on her wedding! She looked stunning. The cupcakes were so pretty! It almost seems cupcakes are the big thing lately…I see the cutest Christmas ornaments in cupcake shapes, children home decor and etc!

What a fun way to bring in the new year! Your cousin was a beautiful bride and looked so happy!

Excited to see where your travels take you this year. Last year I traveled to Ireland, some cities in England (like London), Canada and Chicago!

Sounds like a fab way to ring in 2011! Last year also involved quite a bit of travelling for me: Singapore, London, Dubai, Prague & Goa! Happy New Year, Tina!

oh you had us thinking there was another baby, but i like this addition as well. Looks like you had a wonderful getaway, much needed. Hope you are feeling better too!

14 Heather January 2, 2012 at 2:00 pm

I love weddings! In fact, my 5 year anniversary is Friday so I have been thinking about weddings a lot! What a neat idea to have a New Yea’rs wedding. Great way to kick off the new year as a newlywed I’d day!

15 Heather @ Better With Veggies January 2, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Looks like a fun wedding! I’m really not much of a wedding person, but the few I have good food, drinks, and people.

We traveled a lot this year too – it’s funny how you forget as the year goes on. We went to Utah, Cozumel, Key West, Austria, Michigan, New York, China, DC, Florida, & Honduras. We like to travel! =)

16 tinareale January 3, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Wow! You traveled a lot! I would love to go to all those places!

Yayyay! Wedding :) p.s. you look AMAZING.

20 Sandy January 2, 2012 at 4:14 pm

Weddings are best with lots of friends and beautiful colors. This year I traveled from Indiana to Colorado, Mexico, Florida, Texas, Texas again, Florida again, Chicago (3 times), Virginia, Texas again and Switzerland.

21 Amberly January 2, 2012 at 4:25 pm

Just got back from Green Bay, WI. Watched the Packers beat the Lions! Great game, though it was freeeezing!!! Happy 2012!

22 tinareale January 3, 2012 at 2:39 pm

I almost wonder if that’s why football is bigger in the south…it’s not as dang cold to sit outside and watch. I would have died watching that game. Brrrr!

23 The Hippie Health Nut January 2, 2012 at 4:46 pm

That looks so fun- what a great night for a wedding. My favorite part is always the reception- I love meeting new people and catching up with old friends, good music and lots of laughs. :) Happy New Year!

24 Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health January 2, 2012 at 5:35 pm

Wow that sounds like such a fun and wonderful wedding! I’m glad you and Peter were able to get away for a couple of days and spend some time together!

25 Ela January 2, 2012 at 5:36 pm

Happy new year–and how perfect that you and Peter ended up with a one-on-one that night.

Love your g-pa dancing–awesome!
I’m just pondering my intentions and resolutions now. If I listened to what my dr and therapist told me, my ‘word’ would be ‘consistency.’ But that seems so unappealing, and there are other words that are calling me louder…
love
Ela

A new year’s wedding sounds so much fun!!!

And sorry I missed you today – we haven’t talked in forever!

27 Jess January 2, 2012 at 8:24 pm

SO FUN! You and Peter look super cute in your pics and I LOVE that they served sushi at the wedding, Genius! I also love that your grandfather hit the dance floor with the ladies – so stinkin’ cute!

28 Amy Lauren January 2, 2012 at 8:28 pm

We went a few places last year… Port Canaveral Fla. and then on a cruise so that was actually like 4 places in one, lol. We also went to Pigeon Forge Tenn. and to NC to visit Clay’s grandparents, and I went to Myrtle Beach. So, I guess you can say we did some travelling!

So glad that you and Peter got to have a little date night before your cousin’s wedding and jealous of your run on the beach! I do hope your foot pain eases up, though. And all that wedding food looks delish- so neat that they had sushi. People are STILL talking about the food from our wedding and it was in March, lol.

29 Lauren January 2, 2012 at 8:45 pm

What a great weekend! I am so glad you are feeling better and had the chance to get away for some fun and celebration. :) Happy New Year sweetie.

30 Bethany @ Accidental Intentions January 2, 2012 at 10:03 pm

I feel like I traveled a TON last year. Minneapolis, Glasgow, the Highlands, the Isle of Skye, Oban, Iona, Edinburgh, and St. Andrews in Scotland, multiple trips to and from Chicago, Seattle…yeah, definitely a travel-heavy year for me!

I haven’t been to a wedding since the summer of 2004 and I’ve only been to two weddings in my life, so I don’t know if I could say what makes a good wedding for me…I’ll get back to you on that this time next year, when I’ll have no less than four weddings under my belt…oy. I love that your cousin got married on New Year’s Eve. I don’t have any realistic wedding plans for myself at the moment (being single does that to a person…haha) but the week between Christmas and New Year’s is definitely a time I’d consider getting married. Black and gold NYE wedding…yes. please.

31 Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile January 2, 2012 at 10:23 pm

Happy New Year Tina! I hope you feel better :)

32 Jen January 3, 2012 at 1:19 am

The wedding looks amazing, if I got re-married I think sushi would be way up there on my list of wedding foods, totally unique and great!

33 tinareale January 3, 2012 at 2:37 pm

It was such a cool surprise to see sushi! I ate it UP!

34 Tiff January 3, 2012 at 8:54 am

Yay for your cousin & happy new year!

35 Stacy @ Stacy Eats January 3, 2012 at 10:07 am

How fun having a wedding on New Year’s – looks like fun! Happy New Year to you and the fam!

36 Cheryl January 3, 2012 at 10:28 am

GOOD CAKE makes a good wedding ;) ! Just kidding. I think good music is the key–since you don’t usually know anyone, it takes something to get me dancing.

I travelled a good bit but I didn’t realize it til ya asked: Calgary AB, Victoria BC, Philadelphia, NYC…2012 will be a big one for me because I want to celebrate the end of my university degree with a big trip.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

37 Rebecca @ Miss Magnolia Munches & Moves January 3, 2012 at 11:28 am

A good wedding: the groom cries! Good reception: Lots of dancing and laughing.

I love the idea of a NYE wedding. Happy New Year!

40 Rebecca January 3, 2012 at 7:21 pm

What a fun New Years event! My cousin got married in August, and it was so fun to see all the little kids on the dance floor. When they were forced off the floor for the first dance and stuff, they weren’t happy. It was funny, but also cute. :)

41 Jen January 3, 2012 at 8:35 pm

Congratulations to your beautiful cousin! I always love reading about your family get-togethers, especially those involving your (adorable) grandpa! :)

I didn’t do too much traveling in 2011, but did get to spend a week in St. Thomas, which was amazing! Really hard to go back to reality after that, though…

42 Lexie @ This Aussie Eats January 4, 2012 at 11:46 am

What a great way to spend the New Year! I’m just catching up on reading your posts, not gonna lie..when I read the title of this post I thought the ‘new addition’ was a puppy or family pet haha
